#168 - The 10 WORST Metal Guitar Solos (and how to fix them)

Let's have some fun again together this weekend :) Today, I'd like to show you 10 bad habits when it comes to Metal/Rock guitar solos - and how I personally try to overcome them!

I added the tabs and guitar pro files of all the good takes below in case you'd like to check them out! Aside from being entertaining, this video is focused on a little mental checklist I have in mind when it comes to writing/improvising solos in this style of music.

The most important topics for me are currently #1 (more creative phrasing ideas), #2 (reducing tension, especially when playing live), #5 (adding more expression to melodies), and #10 (playing interesting notes over each chord).

Which topics do you work on currently? Are they included in this list? Have a great weekend :)

Hahaha brilliant. Love the facials! LOL. IMO Definitely one of the most important is use of vibrato and bends for expressive playing with feeling! Well worth training to get right

I literally have an instagram friend who has the same pinky movement and go the same Bernth did on the thumbnail, every time I see him play :D

The problem facial expressions are pretty legendary.

You sure know how to pile on the homework, Maestro! Each lesson is like getting a drink from a fire hydrant! Lol

#1, #5 and trying to work on #10. All 3 are difficult with a limited vocabulary, knowing one half of an arpeggio and limited skills on technique

Arvid Richter

Amazing!!!
