#166 - BEST 15-Min Play-Along Guitar WARM-UP (Picking Exercises, Finger Training, String Skipping, Rhythm)

Time for the next wishlist winner! This 15-minute play-along workout will warm up both your hands for full shred mode - and it's also a great daily technique routine :)

Download the play-along (without intro/outro) and backing tracks in different tempos here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cg4gsxdjf757ddx/AABassyrOTVWib6XAPDkw2PCa?dl=0

I also added the tabs and Guitar Pro files for you below! You are playing through 7 blocks in this workout and I carefully arranged them to make this as accessible as possible for all levels. This workout is not so much about speed, it's about precision and warming up your hands for further exercises :) I hope you have a lot of fun playing with me!

Hey Marcel, Bernth made 2 videos about string muting, I think they will help on your journey - I just searched for 'string muting' for you and they came up right away: https://www.patreon.com/posts/287-string-clean-87365440 https://www.patreon.com/posts/229-patreon-67802535 Hope this helps :) Team Bernth

Hey, I'm really struggling with the Rhythm pattern 2 - precisely, my B string is making unwanted noises, as hitting only three strings seems actually impossible to me. Should I focus to eliminate hitting the B string to overcome this? Btw., is it only the left hand that is muting the strings, or both hands?

Marcel Stasiuk

took me a couple months but i can play the entire warm-up at full speed now and its made my practice sessions so much better :D

Fugginoath

who else is missing those play-alongs :D

Marco

I would consider myself between beginner and intermediate level and simply practicing the first half of this routine has improved my skill level more in the past two months than i ever could have imagined. I used to never practice with a metronome and when i started using one with this warm-up my skill level has Radically improved.

Sean Harris

im honing in on my funk today its so damn hard i need lots of practice haha

jaz

Man, Bro, You are awesome!

Geralt

the drop box link seems to be broken? or is just me?

Michael

Another Fantastic Lesson!!!! BERNTH WOOOOOOOO 🐛🎸🤘

Marshall

Hey BERNTH, do you palm mute on the rhythm section?

Arcanist Bear

Herzlichen Dank Wolfgang für den Tipp

Danijel Brkic

You need Guitar Pro.

Amaroth

Helll yeaaaaaa !

Lauri Laurila

The rhythm sections absolutely annihilated me. Weakness found! Would love to see more rhythm/timing workouts.

Benjamin Hines

i like my teacher Bernth, but i was wondering what a .gpx file is and how to open it. is it a hiking route?

Dirk den Ouden

I really like the way that you break up lines rhythmically from 16ths to triplets and 32nds using altern I really like the way that you break up lines rhythmically from 16ths to triplets and 32nds using alternate picking. Another tip that helped today was to anchor or support my right hand somewhere on the instrument. I’ve always floated my pick hand but think I’ll try having my little finger planted in the pick guard. Also, I was wondering where you lived in Europe and see now that you’re Swiss. I live in the high mountains near the Tetons in Wyoming, USA

Robert Eckert

The beats you added to the video lesson are great, but if I want to practice this at different tempo, I have to use the Guitar Pro, and the gpx file you included has only the guitar tab in it. Would you perhaps consider addding the beat to the tab file as well? I can cobble something together on my own, but I am not exactly a drummer.

Amaroth

Great set for me . Safe for rhythm patterns part where I find myself struggling even at lower bpm. Any catch up exercise recommandation to even that out?

Vincent Boiteau

Amazing set of exercises here, Bernth! Thanks a lot for that. One request that I would like to do when putting several exercises together would be to add separate videos for each one on the dropbox folder. In case we want to focus more on one of those :)

Flavio F Lima

Sadly not planned at the moment, hope to be able to do that for future releases :)

Bernd Brodträger

The on screen tabs are cut off at times on the longer runs, makes it hard to see when only playing along to the video. I really like the dead note rhythm part, I have never been good at those. Thanks Bernth!

Dan Hughes

Ich verwende indische Zählsilben, ta ke ti mi

Wolfgang

Regarding the new album, no vinyl?

p4tt4nz

Hallo Community, kann mir jemand sagen, wie man 32tel Noten zählt?

Danijel Brkic

Hello community can anybody telle me how to count 32nd notes?

Danijel Brkic

Good job BERNTH.

Hector Rodriguez

Honestly, I feel the different... for me this warm up is good at 50 BPM tempo...

Hector Rodriguez

It warms up everything hands and head. Great stuff Bernth.

Steve Shaw

This is a really excellent workout. Loved it and going to incorporate this into my morning warmups for sure. Some great and interesting parts in this to get the hands moving differently

Dave Shaw

the first exercises reminded me of Frank Gambale's Chop builder :D Other than that, the rhythm block is the most challenging for me because it's pretty specific :) keep up the good work!

Deimantas Jurevičius

hohoho the rhythm parts are so stronger....thx Bernth for this routine workout :-)

Hellvetic

I am working on my morning practice routines and this training is amazing man! Thanks a lot! btw. Those rhythm ones are the hardest for me :D especially in 7 string guitar.

Thrusher

Amazing workout :D

Rogerio Silenti

I really like that you included a rhythm workout section \m/

Juan Zombo

Great... Guess I will update my daily warm up (what I used to play for nearly a year now) to this exercise since some tasks here are pretty similar to what I configured for myself but tend to go a little beyond just that. At the very least it is a welcoming change to the routine.

Sephiroth

I have big improvement with your lessons. thank you for this warm-up

georgi kanchev

Thank you Bernth, Now I know that I really suck with the rythm pattern... Impossible to have the good Downstroke and upstroke motion when I speed up...... With the pattern 3 impossible for me to begin with a downstroke the secon triplet section.... ARGGGGGGG

kevin Dumont

Excellent. You’ve saved me so much effort when it comes to creating structured practice sessions to get the most from my time.

Mark McNish

Excellent!!! I cant wait to add this to my growing shred workout! I hope it warms me up quick, its frustrating having to take an hour to be properly warmed up. Silly hands🤘👽🤘

DarthWooPV

Really appreciate this video. I use the warmup from #151 every morning and was just looking for a new routine to rotate in, so I was thrilled to see this in my inbox this morning. Seriously, this is the best serious guitar instruction on the web. Thanks again.

Will Malone

Thanks so much for sharing that John, this really helped me out! Now the link should work for every browser :) I agree, it can feel a bit tedious to play through it slow - but I did find it difficult not to rush and to really play in time here, so it's harder than it looks :) But after 2-3 playthroughs, you can definitely go for the faster backing tracks! You have all exercises under your fingers until then and it makes sense to keep pushing as soon as you feel too comfortable. I'm very happy you like this one - yes, please feel free to modify it to suit your own goals!

Bernd Brodträger

Thank you so much Bernth. This is definitely something I will try and implement, maybe even modify when I feel I can get more out of it. Should we increase the speed of the exercise if we feel the 50 BPM start tempo is a little tedious? Also, I don't think your Patreon link in that video description is working as I had to manually search you on Patreon. Just kept clicking the link and getting a 404 message. Maybe it's just me.
