Time for another lesson my friends, you voted for the best rhythm guitar exercises on the wishlist for September :) Today I'd like to show you one of the coolest concepts for heavy riffs: working with dotted notes and syncopated accents. Don't forget to download your tabs below!
Here are the video play-alongs for this week: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9is83uspaxketjb/AACz9-XUKZoyA5HAL3xGWJNXa?dl=0
Practice concept: Think in the grid of eighth notes and in groups of 3, accent the first note and play two dead notes (exercise one) - then remove the dead notes and only play the accents, the dotted quarter notes would land here (exercise two) - and then you're ready for the riff! I still think in this eighth-note grid when I play it to stay in time and to nail the accents (exercise three).
Hope you have tons of fun with this one :)
