#113 - How To DRASTICALLY Improve Your Timing!

The community has decided - today we finally work on our timing when it comes to guitar solos! This topic is incredibly important and often overlooked. We tend to only think about timing & rhythm when it comes to riffs and rhythm guitar but it's so important to play tight and controlled when it comes to your solos and improvised takes!

The exercise that helped me the most so far is featured in this video, you can also use this concept (switching between different groups) to create your own exercises - just make sure to work with a cool cadence to keep it musical, and don't forget the metronome :)

Hi, very nice tricks, let know where i can find the complete lesson "pyramid.."? thx so much

Just wanted to chime in and say that this is a great introduction to adding picking hand tapping as well. When I play this I tap the frets 13 and 14 with my right index finger. You can also play the entire lick with your fingers and legato. Very soothing sound and a nice relaxed technique session. :)

Thanks so much for the feedback on that! I sadly don't have the Guitar Pro files anymore and would have to go back and transcribe everything from scratch :) At the moment, I think it's a better approach to keep working on fresh material here but I'll consider it if I hear it more often from different students! The video play-alongs don't make that much sense in the context of '10 Steps' in my opinion, since a lot of the practical demonstrations are meant to inspire to create something of your own - even with the first chapter (Timing & Rhythm) it would be great to take the rhythm pyramid and create your own exercises when it comes to switching between the groups/note values (find where your personal challenges/difficulties are!). I added guitar pro files and video play-alongs to my second course 'Sweep Picking Masterclass' though since that one is much more about practicing technique than getting creative :) I hope that makes sense, thanks again for your input!

Play-along vids & GuitarPro files would be be an awesome update to the course!

Marlon Urdelas

That would be my only suggestion for that course as well! I would have loved the content in GuitarPro files.

Hi Bernth! Is it possible to add play-along vids on the "10 Steps to Modern Shredding" course? More power!

Marlon Urdelas

Yess Thanx for the play-alongs you are including :)

Thanks so much for sharing that, I'm happy that these extra files are helping! :)

Bernd Brodträger

I have said it before; the play-alongs you are including are an absolute bonus to everything we learn from the lessons - thanks! It motivates me to work harder at each lesson.
