#108 - How To Combine TECHNIQUE & THEORY!

It's finally time for a new lesson! Since you voted for the topic of music theory again this month, I'd like to go deeper into combining technique and theory correctly in your practice routine :) This system helped me out a lot over the last years. Sadly we don't have 24h to practice guitar every day, so by making sure to combine those 2 important topics, I got the most out of my practice time so far!

This lesson essentially combines a killer alternate picking workout with the theory approach from episode #106 - that way you can make sure to get the best from both worlds in your routine :)

Don't forget to download the tabs and guitar pro files for the workout, I also recorded some play-along videos for the 3 exercises at 120bpm and one video featuring all 3 workouts! You can download them here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9r5qju1l304dfa7/AAD0knzaHg0uVMBLdobgco5Ma?dl=0

Thanks Bernth! This lesson and exercise has been a tremendous help! I'm still relatively new to the guitar, but practicing this over just the past few days has really improved my picking technique/speed, and has helped me get more comfortable playing horizontally along the neck.

Wow the pick angle is probably 40 percent of my issue in speed Thank you for this lesson and I love the idea of making the run Note based not pattern based

Great lesson and exercise, John Petrucci uses this method often.

Just finished my morning routine, got excited about this lesson - and grabbed the attachments and did a short 10 minute workout intro! This is great. I have always used the "guitar grimoire" to figure out the various scales - you have made the scale modes easy (but apparently blind to me) with your explanations! Thank you!

I’m getting a mug!
