#96 - How To Write Amazing Metal Riffs!

Welcome back my friends, it's time for the last topic from your wishlist for May! After that, we will finally tackle this month's most popular topics :)

After all the shredding, it's about time to work on another riff writing lesson. I chose a very simple cadence and show you some cool concepts and details you can add to make it more interesting! Aside from practicing this section, I'd love to see and hear you working with these ideas for your own material - make sure to send over some footage or audio recordings!

I hope you have an amazing weekend (and some time to practice), see you next week :)

this is so exciting!!

Are you able to upload the full length backing track that you used in the video?

Mike Schmidt

Always standard tuning for the lessons :)

Bernd Brodträger

Definitely, some different styles (black, prog, melodic, fusion), some different time signatures, different rhythms of the basic chord progression. That would make an awesome series. Ofc easy for me to write :D

What tuning is this played in?

Really great lesson and that riff is ridic.

Dominic Vermeulen-Smith

Hey Daniel, thanks a lot for sharing that! Adding G on the bottom (assuming you mean on the 10th fret of the A string) also works! :) G is the minor third here and it is already featured on the 8th fret of the B string but you can also add it twice! But there is no seventh in this chord, it's the perfect fifth, 9th and minor third! Hope that helps, happy to hear that you are working on your own alterations of the chords, that's awesome!

Bernd Brodträger

Evening mate. That first chord. The E voicing with the 7th and 9th, I was actually playing it wrong and including the G on the 10th fret. This chord sounds really nice to me also. But it wouldn't work here because of the chord progression were working with? Correct?

Daniel Roberts

It would be great to continue these series of metal riffing .. specially the chords voicing And intervals Thank you very much
