#68: 10 Levels Of Alternate Picking | Beginner to Advanced

Before we move to the next lessons (2 of them coming this week), I thought it would be fun to take a look at a '10 levels' video for alternate picking :) The sweep picking video did really well and these videos are extremely challenging to make - hope you enjoy that one too!

Of course I transcribed the entire section for you, make sure to download the files below to work on each one. I also added a backing track in different tempos in case you would like to give the section a go :)

Hey Chris, thanks for sharing that! The tempo is a big challenge here, that's correct - but it's also harder for me to play fast quintuplets and to stay in the mindset of playing groups of 5 (one of the later examples), so I included multiple layers of challenges for me :) But hand synchronization is definitely the most important aspect, every stroke of the right hand needs to be aligned with the notes the left hand is playing - so I really recommend working on that before you move to fast shred patterns :) But you can also combine that in your routine, placing the shred patterns at the end, after working on your hand synchronization!

It’s great to see a visual representation of “levels” of progression towards shred. Is the factor between the levels just the tempo which you can play them at? For example after you get the hand sync down at 100 bpm does it pay to increase the tempo of that exercise up to 200ish bpm before moving onto the basic shred patterns?
