#15: Melodic Minor & Phrasing [Weekly SGC Bonus Lesson]

It's finally bonus lesson time again! This week we check out the melodic minor scale in detail and what's up with the ascending and descending shapes. A little bit of theory madness going on here - but stick with me on this, you will need it in the future :)

I also show you what I'm currently working on - mastering interesting phrasing and jumping freely between different positions on the fretboard when composing a melody. Next week we will check out more exercises again since we focus a lot on theory here - in the meanwhile I transcribed the lick I was playing in the short video, make sure to give it a go if you want to!

The homework for this week is composing a riff or lick in melodic minor (ascending) - you can also find jamtracks on YouTube to familiarize yourself with the sound. Make sure to accent the raised 6th and 7th scale degree for that signature sound! I'd love to hear if you like this special color.
