December Format Poll 2024

Okay folks, it is time to think about the story update format for December. For those of you who haven’t been here during this time of year before, I like to give at least two presents, maybe more to my patrons, and just update stories over on fanfic or A03. But first, I ask everyone here what kind of format I should go for in December in terms of the polls you all can take part in.
Unfortunately, family time is demanding guys, and with my brother’s baby, I’m being dragged into it even more than normal. So not only will I probably lose Thanksgiving and that last weekend this month, but I will be losing the 22nd and on in December. I can normally get away for a few hours or so every day even so, but not with the whole damn clan coming in.
Damn it. What part of I am an introvert is hard to understand!? Whine.
Anyway, because of that, I can’t promise to get a fourth story out. I will TRY. But it will probably be a story of my own choosing, a small chapter that I can write out without Dragon Naturally Speaking – sharing a room LOL.
Anyway, with that out of the way, here are the format choices this month:
Keep it the way it is now! – self-explanatory. I will keep the normal three polls. That is, 1Ranma, 1HP, and 1Patron Only poll. I will choose to prioritize the Patron Only story first, the Ranma second, and HP third, getting them all out before the 22, hopefully.
Remove one of the two fan-specific polls and add in a Second Patron Poll for Teaser chapters! As everyone here should be able to see, I have a lot of teaser chapters. For this, I would choose which poll to remove randomly (there are websites I can go to for a two-sided die or something, yes I would post it here) and replace it with a cross-fandom patron only poll with two stories from each fandom, Ranma and HP, and have you all vote on which to update with a new chapter. (Yes, folks, this would include Journey Gone Astray my DC/Ranma crossover, and the Homage Series (Ranma/Familiar of Zero.)
Remove one of the two fan-specific polls and add in a Second Patron Poll and let us pick from your story outlines! Like above, I would randomly remove a fandom poll, and then have a list of concept outlines, complete with links to the outlines themselves, for you all to choose from. I would then write up a new teaser chapter.
Remove one of the two fan-specific polls and update one of the two stories closest to completion. Born out out my raw anger at not having been able to follow up on my hope to get a FILFy or Making Waves chapter out every month thanks to becoming an uncle and everything there, I would, once more, remove a poll and then update the story from that fandom. For those of you wondering, Making Waves is around 3 chapters to being finished, depending on how large an epilogue I do, which might mean 4. FILFy is around 4-6 depending on how large the combat scenes become and the timing of various things…
Even hope is better than nothing. How about a poll for the possible fourth story? Instead of trying to let my own imagination/muses flow for the fourth possible story at the end of the month, I would choose four stories randomly and have you all vote on which you wanted to see most. These could be from the monthly polls, my teaser chapters, Journey Gone Astray, Semblance of Hope, or even an outline (Harry Sawyer, maybe?). I will say now if Bhaalson doesn’t win in November, it will be on here! The four choices would be chosen by me, the winner by all of you.
For those wondering, there is no way I would be able to get a FILFy chapter done and out to an editor, hence why it wouldn’t be included in the poll about the possible fourth story, so it wouldn’t be fair to have it mentioned there, or try and put up a poll between it and MW.
I will be seriously interested to see what you all vote for/have to say here.

Huh... this is supposed to be a reply to Phyr rather than HP-DG-AP-PN-RG-NR, but i suppose third tier responses are no longer allowed? Weird. Anyway, Fate, DA are nowhere near finished. Frankly, Fate might match something like Wild Wolf for length and maybe more. DA... that is going to be ATP-sized in the end. Semblance is a true back burner. I wrote myself into a few corners in that fic. I can see my way forward, but it really might not satisfy in terms of an ending.

2024-11-04 14:37:00 +0000 UTCI would prefer if you will remove one of the fan-specific polls and try to update MW instead. As Phyr above, I like completed stories. I hope that the next year you will be able to return to Sword, Bow and Hope or the Ranma/DC crossover (among others like ATP), but I feel that you have too many plates spinning in the air right now. And of course more Bhaalson!

2024-11-03 14:13:30 +0000 UTCI really like the current system, but totally understand the urge to finish a fic or two to free up space on the polls. I propose that every once in a while, Muse willing, you pick a month that's a little too busy for three new chapters and just work on the one or two fics closest to completion. I can pretty confidently say we all love your work here, and nobody wants you burning yourself out because you had too many irons in the fire. Family is nice, but can also be downright exhausting!

2024-11-03 09:36:59 +0000 UTCI agree with this tho with more selfish reasons, I just like completed stories (natural conclusion ofc I hate obviously rushed endings). And in my case I'm hopeing for death's avenger or fate touched (maybe finish semblance of hope?)

If we really want to get a slow drip of chapter for backburner stories I think we should implement a rotation system between those and the two Fandoms. That way we get two chapters of each every three months

2024-11-03 03:07:53 +0000 UTCHonestly, I think that--while many of us adore the main fics--having the chance to see one of the back burner fics be updated is appealing. It could be that you just do the "Drop one of the Fandom-specific fics and vote on back burner fics" in months like these, where you won't have enough time to produce the regular amount of content. You could put the poll for the back burner fic up first and we'll in advance, so we could vote on that. And depending on what Fandom the winning story is from, just do the other major Fandom for the mains story poll. However, I won't presume to speak for the masses here. But is an alternate idea that could be explored; a variation of Option #2 in this poll.

2024-11-03 02:52:48 +0000 UTCHonestly, I just want to see Filfy and MW get completed so that they're both out of the way, and it'll let you and us readers get into either new stories or get the option of bringing back a couple of older ones that haven't seen the light of day in a long ass time. Like, I'd love to see the Ranma/FoZ story come back into the rotation or the Ranma/DC to replace MW in the Ranma polls, and maybe a new possible HP/FT or some other crossover with HP to replace Filfy. I can't remember all of the non-active HP stories you have, if there are any.
