I thought of this shortly after finishing the chapter, but keep forgetting to put it in a comment. In regards to Blackbeard giving up on Whitebeard's devil fruit, the theory in my head has always been that he had the correct fruit with him when whitebeard died, so that he could eat it. With that being said, I could totally get behind the idea of him going after Magellan's fruit. Another option is actually Foxy. I didn't realize it until after the Impel Down chapters, but Foxy was captured and should be down there somewhere. Any form of time manipulation has incredible potential.
