My first ever OCs

So, a little story!

So for a while I had a bit of an art crisis regarding my future as an artist and illustrator, what I wanted to do? Did I have a goal? And then it hit me, after long conversations with people and friends, I came to the conclusion I wanted to write a graphic novel.... about what? I wasn’t sure. But I wanted it so badly. Then, after another batch of months of thinking this came to me, “what’s his name,” and what’s their name”. This is the pitch:

Setting: future/blade runner/ distopic-ish future.

A former general from a militia like organization is responsible of a mission and it goes terribly wrong, he loses most of his men and is seriously injured. He later finds out he’s been framed and that the only witness capable of clearing his name is almost a ghost, it’s a shapeshifter. (People who are born normal but as they grow up their mutation begins to manifest and can change at will, like a methamorphomagus but at a biological level, they are really discriminated and abused for their ability (lots of non-binary, transgender comparisons)). He eventually finds the mentioned shapeshifter and kidnaps them to prove his innocence despite of what might happen to them, but as the journey goes... feeling change!

So far this is what I have. What do you think? I might be doing more doodles about them as I continue developing the story!

Also, if you haven’t read Saga, you would probably enjoy that, too. :)

Yes!! You will love it!!

Yeah! Those are amazing references! I think to make it work it has to be a setting where the abducted party regains autonomy or is able to see the situation from a perspective of power and/or independence, rather than during the time they are abducted. The concept of Mulan is interesting because she goes “native” while trying to infiltrate the army, and the traits that mKe her fall in love with Shen are really good ones!

I never really realised how bad it was until I watched this, now im realising so many of even the stories i love and thought had strong characters fall into the trope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8xL7w1POZ0&t=17s trying to think of good examples of stories that look similar but buck it in some way. Princess bride theres no romance during the abduction, Shrek forever after fiona eventually liberated herself, a goofy movie is nice because its a family bond and the "abduction" is a look into child autonomy in a parent-child relationship, Mocking Jay is interesting because the romance is between abducted parties, Mulan "abducts" herself into the army where one sided romantic feelings grow while undercover, The first x-men shows warm feelings from rogue toward wolverine after being transported unconscious but wolverine flat refuses any romantic leaning, in elementary we discover Irene is moriarty and her kidnapping was self controlled Trying to be constructive :)

I had never heard of Monstress, and I just read the summary and WOW! I gotta read!!

I define ant to add humor, I cannot do a story without it! But I also want some angst regarding the situation and whole ordeal!

That’s an interesting point, I’m still developing the shapeshifter’s personality and I think this is something to really take into account, I’ll definitely be taking Rey as ref hehe. But yeah, the whole defenseless maiden falls in love with kidnapper is not my thing. It’s a very delicate balance!!

It sounds promising - I could see it being sort of the same tone as Monstress, but I think it could also go in a slightly less angsty direction and have some elements of humor. I’d be interested in hearing what kind of tone you’re envisioning.

Love it!

Sounds good, careful of falling into the abduction as romance trope, its unhealthy and we dont need more examples in media. Could show the shapeshifter is actually fully capable of leaving their 'captivity' and interact as equals without manipulations
