I figured as much, as much as I like Lord of the rings, I’m not as merely as knowledgeable as I would like. Thanks a lot for the information though 😁👍

2022-10-19 04:00:01 +0000 UTCIt’s indeed a lack of Silmarillion type knowledge lol. Earindil the mariner, the man who crossed the ocean and got the valar off their butts to beat Morgoth was half-elven. With a dash of maiar mixed in.

2022-10-19 03:20:06 +0000 UTCThanks for another fantastic chapter! I think the only thing that confused me slightly was the statement: "Indeed, neither you nor I would be here if not for such unions. But, you must understand what this means for you going forward.” Though I place that down to my lack of knowledge of the lore than anything on your part honestly. And in regards to rings of power, this may as well be heaven compared to that hellscape lol. Once again, thanks for a great chapter!

2022-10-15 02:53:14 +0000 UTCHarry's Equipment: Um, I'll delete this message if you think it's a spoiler, but I kind of hope you're not hinting towards dragon-bone. It would certainly be a powerful material, but there are issues, mostly that I would like the Dwarves to hang up the complete skeleton as a trophy. I guess the head would work by itself, but the whole skeleton is better since the head alone doesn't give you the full sense of scale. Smaug's head was fairly small compared to the rest of him. There's also the issue of whether Arien would be ok with her power being channeled through something like that, even purified. I would enjoy Harry getting some leather armour and a coat made out of Smaug's scales though. Wizards in Middle Earth also go by colours, so Harry the Red works. It also suits him because of his placement in Gryffindor, the rubies in his sword, and the symbolic meanings (warrior, martyr, sacrifice, etc.). It would also be fine with me if the dwarves decided to say gild the skeleton before hanging it over the treasure vault, and happened to replace one of Smaug's wing bones with a fake. They certainly have enough gold to do that, and it would make a pretty badass decoration/deterrent against thieves. Not to mention the delicious irony of gilding the bones of the dragon that killed so many of them for their gold. Spirits/Varda: Even if humans aren't inherently evil, the spirits certainly are, so I still think Varda would have worked, but you're kind of creating the rules for magic in Middle Earth yourself, soI can live with that. Saruman/Mirrors: Sounds great! It's also possible that Saruman knows much of the lost Dwarves knowledge of runes himself. I'm pretty sure he would have studied them himself at some point, maybe even from Aule before he came to Middle-Earth. Elves: Well, as a part of it, the elves would be giving up a portion of their life-force/soul/light/divinity (whatever it is). Elves have done that before, I think Arwen did it, but that might have just been the movies. In-Laws: I'm looking forward to it whenever it happens. I can't imagine it will take long. Even if Harry and Tauriel escape Greenwood before her family catches up to them, or hears about their relationship, they will be waiting for them when they get back. Aside from the war, or maybe even including it, their daughter marrying a human/maiar is probably the most interesting thing to happen in 1000s of years. Only one maura has ever wed an elf before, and human/elf relationships have only happened twice. It's also very likely that Thranduil's guards heard Gandalf chewing him out (elves have superhuman hearing, and Gandalf wasn't whispering), so at least a few people in the kingdom now know that Istari outrank elven kings. You could also have Tauriel's brother trying to be protective. Relationship: Speaking of Tauriel, I can't remember if Harry has spoken with her about Hermione yet. The general vibe of Tolkien elves is very chaste, so how will she react to the news that Harry was in love with someone else first? Corrections: Take your time. It was still enjoyable to read anyway. Messages: I can't access them either for some reason, must be a back-end problem. Please respond when you can, but, no rush. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

2022-10-05 04:44:12 +0000 UTCA staff for Harry - yep, that's going to be coming. Either almost accidentally (can't give more away without spoils) or made of something not wood at all... heh. I thought about Varda - her name is deadly to spirits, and Mandos - who is Lord of the dead. But these spirits were men, not elves or orcs. So the power either Mandos - humans just pass through, no interaction , or Varda - humans aren't inherently evil or tainted, they can become so, but it isn't a part of their very being - would not have such inherent power over their undeath. Can't take credit for the theory about Tom - I looked up many of them, but that one makes the most sense to me other than the Tolkien self insertion idea, and that just wouldn't match the great man's personality. Harry and Saruman will collaborate yep. It remains to be seen who gets the most out of it. I won't say much, but yes, communication mirrors are a go. I will probably have Saruman not know about them at first, but then able to reverse engineer them thanks to their previous work together, but then not sharing them with Sauron. Actually, I don't know if Eru Illuvatar wanted the immortals removed from Middle Earth. Re-listening to the Silmarilion (audiobooks for the win on long drives) such was not mentioned. What was mentioned was that the souls of elves basically... um, sort of burn through their physical bodies, unless those bodies are empowered by being near the Valar and Maiar? It is kind of confusing but: the Eldar who were born in Valinor or lived there were stronger, faster, and fairer than most who stayed bar those directly related to Thingol (who married Melian a Maia). But there is evidence that elves just... burn out, slow or fast being in Middle Earth after the sinking of Numenor and the war of the Last Alliance. I kind of have offset this more than a bit by mentioning elven children, but that goes only so far. I am uncertain as to when Tauriel's family will get involved. She and they are very... neutral towards one another. They don't dislike one another or anything, but Tauriel doesn't really have anything in common with them. I suppose I could mention them, but I want to start moving the story along, hence why I raced a bit at the end. Yes, i know I need to go back and edit this chapter... maybe after I am done with Observanc3's corrections to ATP51... maybe. We will see. I saw your message in my email inbox, but when I go to my messages here, they won't load, so I can't answer you just yet. No idea why, and I don't want to go into RoP here since it would be off topic. But.. The acting. The choreography of the fights. Not a single one has been good. Unless you think random elf and Guyladriel are the elvish equivalent of Ranma. The plot. Guyladriel. the timeline. The Numenoreans. GOD THEY are so bad on so many levels. The harfoots. Just... no. The orcs switching randomly from being able to deal with the sun, and not. That is all I will say right now, and you will note I didn't mention the utter contempt the writers seem to have for Tolkien or his work, since I know they have both said that themselves and didn't have the rights to anything but the appendices. Suck it big business.

2022-10-05 04:03:05 +0000 UTCWonderful Chapter! You did make a few mistakes here and there; referring to Estel/Aragorn as Bilbo and Anakin in different parts, but it is quite well written for most of your early drafts. The elves also didn't revere the moon at the time you mentioned. They revered the stars as the purest form of light, untouched by Morgoth. The moon was created along with the sun after the Trees of Valinor fell. They did like it more than the sun though since they liked Telperion more than Laurelin. Speaking of the two trees, what about Harry's staff? I think he should use a naturally fallen Mallorn branch. They seem to have a connection to the sun, with mystical properties associated with light and life. They also have golden leaves, and their name literally means Gold Tree. Maybe they are distantly descended from Laurelin as the White Trees of Numenor and Gondor are from Telperion. The sun was made using Laurelin's last fruit, so this seems fitting. The wood itself could be a warm golden colour under the bark. The meeting with Tom and Goldenberry was well done. I kind of agree with your theory. The Barrow fight was also nice. Personally, I would have invoked Varda rather than Manwe as purifying light is kind of her thing since she has power over the stars, which are the purest and eldest form of light on Arda. Fun(schadenfreude) to see Saruman like that. While I know that he is going to be a major bad guy, and powering him up is definitely a bad idea, I still kind of want some collab sessions between him and Harry in the future. Seeing what they can make when trading Harry's runes for Aule's teachings would be great. I think I mentioned communications mirrors before, but those would help the White Council and allied nations (Rohan, Erebor, Dale, etc.) immensely. Galadriel's meeting with Tauriel was fun. I still think that Illuvatar's intent was less about specifically removing elves than removing the immortals from the world. Both Hobbits and Dwarves seem to have been allowed to stay after the immortals fully left. I think that a small portion of elves choosing to give up their immortality would be allowed to stay as well. Say a lifespan of 500 max for them, and limited version of Man's gift, just like the Hobbits and Dwarves. The death of an elven child probably should have been a bigger deal for them too. Even in the First Age their population doesn't seem to have grown very quickly, so children are rare for them. Losing a young child like that would probably be horrifying to any elven kingdom on the same level as 9/11 was for the US. It should have started an immediate extermination campaign against the spiders, regardless of Thranduil's cowardice. I'd also love to have Harry meet Tauriel's parents before they leave. I know that elves don't really have a sense of urgency about these things, but their daughter's chosen mate is certainly odd enough for them to take a very keen interest, Tauriel's mother especially. From your description, she was very eager for Tauriel to marry Legolas. Her reactions would be very interesting. On the one hand, the relationship is progressing very fast by elven standards (rumours of the Hickeys Tauriel had in the elven camp will not go over well), and Harry is human. On the other, Harry is an Istari, so it's not like their daughter will be committing suicide by giving up her lifespan immediately, and Harry could arguably outrank kings in some ways. Hard to say how, they'll react. Probably negatively at the start, but beyond that, who knows? You did skip over a lot at the end, but the rest was so good, I don't think it was really necessary. I'm looking forward to what comes next. You've already mentioned how Harry will fight with the Dwarves to reclaim Gundabad, but should they go for Kazad-Dum first? It makes more strategic sense since it is closer, controls a trade route through the mountains, and the world's mithril supply. It would also have Harry confront the Balrog before the Fellowship Arc. Fantastic job as always! Hope to hear from you again soon!
