After completing the "setting up" tutorial, I figured it would be important to go through using references! This can be an issue for a lot of artists, so it's best to clear things up a bit.
Reference sources can be found all over the internet! I use a lot of different programs and sources , including SenshiStock, and various photos on Pinterest (follow my "Figures" board!).
I also mentioned in the tutorial that taking your own photographs for reference is the best way to avoid issues with sourcing. I sometimes take photos of my own hand to use in illustrations! There are also programs that allow you to construct your own figures (I use DAZ3D which is free for what I use it for) and SketchUp for architectural environments (it's also free). You can download models onto SketchUp that are made by other people, but if I use that, I usually still go with the general rule, which is changing 3-4 major things about it. Otherwise it's pretty easy to create your own simple architectural designs!
Next week (hopefully), I'll be starting the official painting tutorial! So if you have any questions on the physical painting aspect of digital art, let me know so I can address it in my tutorial!
