Friday Rambles 2025-12-12

Good evening, Fridaynauts. It is the second Friday Ramble of the last month of 2025. Welcome to new people, and thank you to the oldheads.

Game Dev Stuff

There were a lot of real life interruptions and obligations this week that kept me from doing as much work on Game 2 as I would have liked, but game dev is slowly happening.

I wrote a bunch of dialogue, and I got some coding done. The coding was boring stuff related to phone calls. There are phone calls in the game again.

An excerpt.

A couple games came out that I caught my eye. Rhythm Doctor, a game that has apparently been in Early Access for a while, did its big 1.0 launch this week, and I played through 3 "acts" out of 6 total. The premise is simple. It's a rhythm game, and you only need to press one button. Wow! Amazing! I love Rhythm Doctor! I also love that there is a native Mac client, and it does all the ...fancy window stuff... perfectly.

Unbeatable, which had a lot of hype behind it, also released this week, so I also played that. I played through Chapter 1 on my Macbook using Crossover, and it seems to work fine. The premise is that it's a rhythm game, and you have two buttons to press. And you also have a story mode where you run around and do adventure game things. The soundtrack is bangin. I'll probably play more of it later after I finish eating my Hundred Line and Rhythm Doctor cakes.

Speaking of Hundred Line (which is not a rhythm game), I got a few endings out of its famous 100 endings, and I feel like I got what is probably a satisfying conclusion to the story, but I also think I'm still missing like 90% of what I can uncover. I laughed. I cried. But there are a lot of endings left. I want to get them all. Someday. Anyway, it's my GOTY.

I think video games are pretty cool. I don't know if I'll ever have the ambition (or budget) to make a game with 100 endings, but I'm feeling very inspired lately.

The End

I really hope next week will have more progress so I feel better about myself. I've written enough dialogue that I know what direction I want to take the game, but I think we'll have a couple+ more months of writing and editing to go. I guess in the meantime I'll just keep posting more doodles and no-context excerpts.

Also, next week will probably be some kind of "year in review" thing, where I look back at my year and cry about how little I really got done.

Thank you for your support, as always! See you next week.
