Friday Rambles 2025-12-05

Good evening, Fridaynauts. It's the first Friday Ramble of the last month of 2025. As autumn wanes, and winter begins its silent arrival, I get yet another cold. Not as bad this time around, though. Stay healthy, everyone.

Starting to get busy with holiday stuff, and work life balance is tipping over to the life part. Not that it was all that deep in the work part to begin with.

Not Game Dev Stuff

Black Friday sales season is over. The sale for the sticker shop went well, and I've met my budgeting spreadsheet boss's expectations for the month. People even bought a bunch of "You're So Good At Your Job, Baby" stickers.

This time I drew a little doodle for every order instead of just the big ones! I've gotten pretty fast at it. Practice makes faster, as they say.

thank you, Tiger-chan.

The shop is now closed for the rest of the year, as foretold in the ancient texts of last week's Ramble.

But... I think Bandcamp Friday is going on for a little bit longer, maybe? It's a good way to support the illustrious composer of the Endless Monday: Dreams and Deadlines soundtrack, Chance Thrash.

Game Dev Stuff

The game will be on sale on Steam until Monday. Just in time to go on sale again for the Steam Winter Sale! Hey, look, no one buys the game when it's not on sale, and if I can press a button to enable the "people buying the game" feature, I'm gonna do that as often as I can, okay

As far as "game" "development" goes, I mostly wrote dialogue. I also studied various flowchart systems that other VNs use for choice based narrative, because I'm thinking about doing something like that for Game 2. Although, it'll probably be more appropriate for something with a more sprawling story than something like Dreams and Deadlines. Who knows.

This research has led me to start playing Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. It sure has a flowchart system, alright. I've been enjoying my time with it so far, and learning a lot.

Same here, Gaku-kun.

If you've played Dreams and Deadlines, you'll know I have a fondness for [turn based strategy battle modes], and games like 100 Line or 13 Sentinels or 428 Shibuya Scramble or 999 are inspiring me to make a game with [turn based strategy battle modes] as the central mechanism around which the narrative and game systems revolve. You might be able to guess where this is going. That's right, my next game's title will start with a number. And include a turn based strategy battle mode.

Anyway. I wrote more intro stuff. I can't seem to make the rest of the game without a completed intro. The intro was also the first thing I made for Dreams and Deadlines when it was 15 minutes long and called "I Dream of Tiger-chan", and it didn't change at all throughout the entire development of the game. It was like, the foundation upon which the entire rest of the game was built on.

An excerpt.

Well, time's a tickin', and I gotta get something out quick before people start to expect something good. I'm more of a quantity over quality kinda guy.

The End

That's it for this Rambles. Next week I'll be doing family travel stuff but I'll try to get some work done too. Or at least some research into narrative game flowchart implementations.

Thank you for your support, as always! See you next week.
