Unsolicited Econ advice: 1. get whatever training you need to grade quickly and efficiently and make the feedback easy and consistent. Students will love you and you won’t waste time. Feedback should be aligned to the learning goals of the assignment. 2. If the books are ARCs that you can’t resell, figure out how to trade them for chores, edits, favors. They have value but not so much in cash. 3. Get double or triple duty from those reviews—- link to them from your website, etc. and be real clear what your ip rights are. Good luck!

I read that one after several recent reads about the devastating impact of “fast fashion” on the rest of the world. Creeped me out in the way that Andy in Devil Wears Prada might have gone if she didn’t ditch the phone. Thank you for the scare, and congrats!

I'm worried about Cat's back! However, I did survive having to cover a football game in a stadium with 106,000 people in it on Saturday. After 18 months of hiding my high-risk family in what seemed like permanent lockdown, it was more than a little stressful going into a massive mob of people. I'm glad to be working again, but ... that was a little too much. That's a big city in one big bowl.

Hi, I hope that everyone is doing well :) My name is Riaz and I'm an illustrator and designer. Since reading the "Orphan's tales" a few months ago, I've fallen head over heels in love with what writing could bring to my creative practice. I look forward to exploring that with everyone! P.s. Could somebody please tell me how to access the Discord room? Thanks in advance

How wonderful! I'm so glad that's going well for you. --filkferengi

I highly recommend CO. We love it here.

I survived the week! And, I am running games again, and feeling more creative than I've been in... possibly years. A big part of it seems to be that I... am starting to figure out how to write characters? Yaaay!?

Ugh. Pinched nerve in my neck, one of our cats had to go to the emergency vet this week (he's OK ::knocks wood::), work is being particularly chaotic and annoying, and I still have to do *All The Things*. I'm overwhelmed and frazzled and grumpy. UGH.

Thx!

I’m ready to make an impulsive life decision, or at the very least a career change. My sanity cannot take being in a murder trial or two every week, while also maintaining constant communication with crime victims on over 600 cases. And crime just keeps surging. I’ve become a ball of anxiety and insomnia, so it’s time for a change.

Congratulations!

Mostly doing okay. We're researching cities to possibly move to. Austin's now officially more expensive than anywhere outside the Bay Area, which just happened in like the last 15 years. And Texas politics have been especially awful and evil lately. It's rough to be facing another quarantine, especially when everything is open and lots of people are cavorting in restaurants, movie theaters, etc. And they're hostile to anyone taking health precautions, which seems insane.

I started a reader/grader position at my grad school yesterday, as well as a book reviewing gig (where I'm essentially paid in books to review them), and in a week and a half the actual quarter starts. So I'm a liiiiiiiiittle worried about getting overwhelmed. I'm sure by mid-October I'll be well adjusted, but that transition period between several months of free-form summer break to highly regimented fall schedule is going to be ever so fun.

I had my first story published! It's about a fashion show and the infernal horrors of capitalism. https://pseudopod.org/2021/08/27/pseudopod-772-flash-on-the-borderlands-lvii-the-loving-gaze-of-the-abyss/#more-10127

Am looking forward to my voice lesson today, which is a bright spot in every week. I started taking them to improve my breathing, and they're doing that and more.
