Fun with Sales Tax: Ask Me How
Added 2020-06-11 17:54:01 +0000 UTCA brief housekeeping note:
As some of you know, Patreon is about to start charging US Sales Tax on some kinds of content, in some locations, starting 7/1.
Does this suck? Yes. Can we not? No.
However, because of the specific kinds of content I offer here, this should not affect most of you. Almost everything here is simply access to posts and content, fan requests, voting rights, or personal access to me. I don't mail anything out, you're not purchasing anything from me. Access to the Livestream (still need one more question to trigger the next one!) is not classified as a taxable good in the majority of states so we should be mostly okay there too. If you're in one of the states that does charge for some of the types of rewards in the Lab, I am sorry, it should only be a little, and I can't really do anything about it other than what I've already done, which is to painstakingly go through the levels and classify everything according to type.
In summation: the vast majority of you should not see any change, because this Patreon isn't really that kind of Patreon. For those who do, I am sorry, please don't leave. :)
Keep well, keep safe, keep going.
Love,
Cat

Just for comparison, here in Germany as a value added tax of 19 percent on the total patreon bill. Which is only fair. You certainly add value ๐.
