After Hours: Shadowrun - Shadowbeat

A listener recently sent me a copy of a Shadowrun supplement called Shadowbeat. This book covers pop culture, a rare topic for a RPG book. In order to do this book justice, I got a lot of people to discuss it, so this episode is extra long!

a Quake LARP? :O

Ross Payton

By the rules in Shadowrun it can only do so much stun which then bleeds over to killing but to kill you outright well at least in 4th Edition that would be hard and require 20+ success's

Darn i thought i commented about the fact the Starter Set for 4th Edition Shadowrun included a entire scenario about getting the lost CD of some famous Rocker in setting. They make explicit comparisons to Elvis in popularity and then he vanished. It adds a bit about how you can run scenarios more based on the music industry and its ok not great

To add, I like the idea about the book as setting up other things to in Shadowrun beyond just corporate wetworks. I’m not surprised it didn’t work though.

Colin Thompson

Man, I only remembered the journalism and rocker parts. I think Urban Brawl makes more sense as a TFC/Quake LARP.

Colin Thompson

God help me that I know this, but Urban Brawl used rubber bullets. Although how non-lethal a .50 cal rubber bullet is is up for interpretation.

Peter Robson

The 'forbidden instruments sounded good though. I'm imagining cyberpunk Footloose with a sasquatch lead.

Tore Nielsen

..apparently Urban Brawl is supposed to be a "non-lethal" game. According to something I just read. i'm unsure how a light machine gunner quantifies this.. but it would explain why a frozen player isn't just murdered. Also in one of the novels there was a Troll band called Darwin's Bastards who's music was described akin to "..a car being disassembled with an minigun."
