Don't Cross the Stream: Blade 1 and 2

For our spooky October episode, we head back to the late 90s and early 2000s for a double dose of Blade, the vampire hunter. Wesley Snipes looked very cool in his sunglasses and leather trench coat as he murdered the World of Darkness, one bloodsucker at a time. Birk, Richard, and newcomer Kat from Best Pal Brigade joins us as we figure out what kind of fun games we can make from the first cool superhero movies.

that level of talmudic analysis is a perennial geek hobby.

Ross Payton

yeah, Night's Black Agents could be the perfect game for Blade

Kat was a joy to listen to. She needs to come back ASAP. "Geuuns!"

Having been a fan of these movies when I was a teen watching them several times. I eventually realized that blade 2 is a spy thriller. He achieved his goal, of finding out how the vampires were hiding their clubs about a third of the way through the movie. So the rest of the movie is just blade cleaning house of any one who knew that that information was compromised. And he did it all without even the audience, realizing what his true goal was.

This takes me back a bit. When Blade came out, there was a group of hardcore Magic players who hung out in the basement gaming rooms of the FLGS downtown. They were also into Vampire & other WoD games (for the power fantasy aspect) and when they saw Blade they literally spent hours debating what WoD powers the characters in that movie had. It was a fascinating bit of geek scholasticism to observe, like watching Byzantine scholars debating the question "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?".
