Don't Cross the Stream: Reboot

Netflix released Reboot: The Guardian Code, a new series based on the cult classic 90s CGI cartoon. Renee, Noah, Aaron, and I talk about the new series and how to gameify it. Who needs acting when you can just randomly pick your emotions?

It sounds like nobody in production gave a damn about this show and just phoned in a cliched live action series barely connected to the source material. Like, the kids don't even have different computer/electronics-related specialties? Or special talents? Hobbies? What's even the point of the real-world setting? Ugh.

Though it’s not quite the thing to gamify 'The Guardian Code' this episode did remind me of an FFG d20 supplement called ‘Virtual’: <a href="https://rpggeek.com/rpgitem/53235/virtual" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://rpggeek.com/rpgitem/53235/virtual</a> PC’s are supposed to be sentient programs living entirely within computer networks (so more like the original Reboot) and I remember it being a pretty good adaptation of the d20 system. I played in a short campaign when it came out (2003?) and having fun. One of the unique things about it that I remember was that they split the “virtual” analogue of race into two parts, which I found interesting at the time. I ought to dig out my copy and have another look at it tonight.

I couldn't even make it past the first episode. The acting and writing was so bad. I was told by fans that if they took out the Reboot IP, it was just a Code Lyoko remake.
