About WoD The Heck...

So over the last week, I have been thinking about the World of Darkness and how to make it entertaining. The Montreal book turns out to be a Black Dog title, which means it is extremely edgelord in the "Let's ape Clive Barker as hard as we can" kind of way.

Then I found out that Onyx Path published a new Werewolf book, Changing Ways, (Old World of Darkness Werewolf) that states that Garou are anti-vaccine. I remember making the argument that Changelings would be anti-vaxxers as an absurd joke, just to push Shaun's buttons a bit. Now reality has become parody. This same book apparently also says that werewolves are anti-abortion and transphobic. I haven't read it and now I don't want to. It's no longer fun.

There's also the small matter of Vampire co-creator Mark Rein Hagen stating that letting Nazis beat you is morally superior to fighting back. I want to have fun at RPPR and maybe reality is making WoD not fun for me any more.

HOWEVER, I will not present a problem without a solution! I have a new idea for a bonus podcast!

Don't Cross the Stream is a new series that looks at weird things on various streaming sites like Netflix and dissects them for gaming fodder. I have already recorded the first episode with SPECIAL GUEST THAD!

I will post it in a few minutes. Anyway, I hope this replacement for WoD The Heck is satisfactory. Thanks for your support!

Can't blame you. I know I said in another thread that I was looking forward to your review, but I don't actually own any WoD books and have no interest in reading any myself. Can't be upset you aren't doing something I wouldn't do either.

Yeah this seems like a good idea, you'd covered most of the good(?) stuff recently anyway. And WW does seem to have gone to the alt-right dogs. I wouldn't mind some dips back into Palladium though. Like maybe Tom on Nightbane, perhaps.

Peter Robson

This is disappointing to hear, but after reading through those tweets I think it's the right move.

Well while I was kind of a fan of WoD the heck I get the desire to move. I remember when the WoD got (more?) problematic and Werewolf was always one of the more awkward lines. But I'm more of a fan of great/terrible movies. So happy you started with a Steven Seagal flick :) I'd also like to recommend Spectral, Pandorum and Infini as good idea generators for DG/Eclipse Phase, Willow for some classic fantasy, Dark Crystal for some very pretty fantasy clearly written by stoned people and just not recommend Frankenstein's Army, like at all...

This seems like the right call. These recent incidents really don't make it much fun to talk about or engage with WW products. MRH has followed up in a very nasty way with people calling him on the Nazi statement, too. Since WoD has jumped the wereshark (and then some), I'm looking forward to checking out the streaming podcast instead.

I used to really like WoD and CoD. Seeing the two links above is really disappointing. I had enjoyed the WoD the Heck series but entirely understand the decision to not continue it.

The new owners of White Wolf really suck, they added the horrible things to the book after the writers sent it in. (they also made all birth control not work on werewolves, have fun ladies!) The sad thing is they got rid of all the creepy breeding restrictions in Werewolf last edition, and dialed down of the eco-terrorist bullshit. The Chronicles of Darkness version of Werewolf has changing genders being easy as hell because you are a magic shapeshifter. I play Exalted and CoD (mainly Hunter, although I want to start a Changeling game one of these days) thankfully Paradox seems to be ignoring them but it is getting really frustrating.

When WoD the Heck becomes WoD the Everloving Fuck, it’s time to move on.

Ryan Mannix

Thanks. It seems like WW has been sinking into a toxic swamp for a while now, people are just starting to notice the smell.

Grassdragon

Its honestly for the best.

Turtle Scare

Oof, bummer. Ah well, made-for-streaming series have fun leaning into the ability to be weird and esoteric so there'll be plenty of material to riff on ^^
