WoD The Heck: Episode 8 - Werewolf the Apocalypse

BLOODBLOODBLOOD!

Peter Robson

No love for the other lost tribe: the bunyip tribe of Australia? They were based on the extinct thyacines - marsupial wolves. It was equal parts glorious and ridiculous.

Peter Robson

I love how exhausted Faust is by the end of these! Side note I loved Werewolf.

Ryan Bond

I forgot to mention! I heard about the "Pants:" thing from oWoD players but I never realized it was on the character sheet. How wacky!

Ken Ringwald

Best changing breed was the Rokea- were sharks.

If it is anything like up here in Canada, Métis is pronounced "may-tea". Also, it was pretty crappy for the writers to use that word to describe a species of mutated, outcast wolf-monsters, given that its origin is tied to a community of mixed Native and European descent in Canada, with all the history that entails. I guess the writers just thought it sounded cool and edgy, so they divorced the word from its original context to use for their own creative work. They did that with a lot of things in the oWOD. There ought to be a phrase to describe that practice. But nothing *cough* appropriate comes to mind. ^_~

"So we've explained the basic aspects of the game..." at 1 hour and 2 minutes. Sounds like trying to teach White Wolf games, alright. Stuff like the Weaver being the *real* secret enemy always confused me about WW games. It's set up to be this potential game changing reveal, but any player who's read the books already knows it.. I also like how Faust's preferred response to both Werewolf and Mage is to get the hell away from the main setting antagonist. ("No Technocracy allowed" pocket realm or Wyrm free umbra) The nWoD version of Werewolf (the Forsaken) was one of my favorite World of Darkness games, partly because it had a strong local focus instead of a globe-spanning war. It was way more about territory - getting it and defending it. I don't think it ever found the same niche that W: tA did though.

Ken Ringwald

So, as someone who barely touched on Werewolf but played some Exalted back in the day, I have to say, wait, what? W:tF has (dai)claves and fcking Malfeas?

TRNSHMN

For the record, my favorite auspice was Galliard.

Ahh werewolf so much love for this game. Here is the question though what will paradox do with white eolf now.

'Pentex is the Umbrella corporation' That now makes so much more sense. Why would you continue with your repeatedly failed 'zombie = profit' business model unless someone was paying you to end the world. Shareholder meetings would be interesting. Why yes we did almost destroy the world, but the contribution to profits on our 'Dark Benefactor' line item are waaay up! I can only assume the company that repeatedly tries to re-start Jurassic Park despite the terrible losses of life that occur literally every time has the same ownership model. So on a related topic, I'm now going off to write my Werewolf The Apocalypse in Zombie Jurassic Park one shot...

I think a lot of OWoD has to viewed in context of the gaming scene at the time. The earlier core games themselves aren't terrible, but having a overarching metaplot is the cancer that made the game line an unwieldy mess.

Hunter: The Reckoning: Redeemer was such a weird little gem of a game. Another evil themed Christmas level that always stuck with me wasin the old arcade game "Carnevil" where you also had to murder Santa Claus.

Nicholas Withrow

Ah, Werewolf the Apocalypse the game where despite all your rage you're still just a rat in a cage. I really do love this game line, it's one of the few I feel that really does justice to it's overall theme unlike Vampire.

Nicholas Withrow

In regards to the holiday game, have any of you played the xbox game "Hunter the Reckoning: Redeemer"? There is literally a christmas parade street level and boss fight where your fighting a twisted demonic santa and teddy bears. I cant wait to hear this game.

Al Dente Rigamortis

I think these episodes have really helped me put my nostalgia for the WoD to rest. Great episode, as always!
