WoD The Heck: Hunter the Reckoning

In this episode, we cover Hunter the Reckoning, because I personally own the entire game line. We will eventually cover every game line before we dive into specific books but I wanted to touch on that first. Hunter is kind of a hot mess but one I enjoyed back in the day. I even found a PDF chronicling my campaign of H:TR back in the day. It's also attached to this post.

"Werewolves get Gifts..." "Yea, the're very generous!" "And Fetishes." "Sure! They're very kinky!"

Hunter! I like Hunter a lot and Hunter: the Vigil is one of my favorite nWoD lines. The Horror Recognition Guide that Ross mentions is super great. While it includes a couple WoD stand-bys (a Mage, a Promethean, etc) they make sure that each one is really weird and unsettling. I love Faust's skepticism that anyone would listen to anime souls for any reason. Exalted is its own bizarre (even for WW) beast. I remember trying to explain the basic world background to my players. When, after 45 minutes, you finish with, "but you don't actually know all that, because your reincarnation doesn't remember it yet" you realize you've made a mistake or two. Granted, this is a problem with a lot of WW games.

Oooh, I'd honestly be interested in having a WoD the Heck where you take the Exalted 2nd edition rulebook (since that's currently the available one and it has all the major world lore in a neat little section at the start of the book), and just have you guys take turns reading it out to each other and see how many times you need to stop to compose yourselves, because Exalted is as Anime as all get out - think 'Journey to the West' by way of Slayers NEXT and Dragonball Z Of course, I'm also interested in seeing what you think of Princess the Hopeful... man, I need to start coming up with some actual oWoD topics to suggest instead of WoD-tangential stuff.

From the actual-play of 3e Exalted I'm listening to at the moment, you're still looking at 20+ dice per character per round of combat (although in this game's case that doesn't happen as often since most sessions end up with the circle of Exalts quibbling over details and occassionally getting several hundred people killed when they hit their limit breaks and make the Worst Possible Decisions At That Given Moment).

from what I can pick up from "Exaltwitch" actual play, Exalted 3e got rid of the bucket of dice apparently

I assumed Sean was going to mentioned the film Frailty at the start of the podcast. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0264616/

I feel as if you could make an amazing game of Hunter where the player characters are actually just the paranoid schizophrenics they seem like. That taxi driver isn't actually walking dead, and you aren't actually radiating a light to harm him.

You talk about all the Creeds and Virtures for Hunter ,well they translated them into the Vampire:the eternal struggle CCG as well. In fact they had to make all new rules for Hunters for the cards to mix and play with the other cards which were ment for Vampires. They were the only non-vampire expansion in the CCG and the Hunters are OP when it comes to combat and their Powers. They had to be the special snowflake.

We will probably cover Shadowrun sometime on After Hours. We still have a lot of the OWoD to get through first.

I played in one World of Darkness game (new) and I made seemingly mundane nerd into a shotgun wielding arm of justice through Hunter stuff. So ridiculous. How about a series on Shadowrun in the future.

Trung

One thing I love most about hunter is that it shares DG's sense of human frailty while also having a slightly more hopeful tone. I support any setting where you can unironically quote Idris Elba in Pacific Rim. TONIGHT WE AE CANCELLING THE APOCALYPSE!

Darth

mid-listen: Another good movie to think about in conjunction with Hunter is Frailty.

Timothy Connelly

Sidenote: In LA by Night there is a Malkavian who thinks he's Dracula.

Another... insightful episode. Always enjoy the spiral of madness crossed with a game line history lesson. If I can toss a suggestion for game to talk about: Monte Cook's World of Darkness?

Al Dente Rigamortis

Yes! I've been waiting for more WOD the Heck :D
