Early Access: Trail of Cthulhu - General Order #11

I am making this post public so everyone can download it while RPPR is down. My host, Bluehost, has been unable to fix the server that RPPR runs on for several days now. Hopefully they will fix it soon.

Synopsis: Amidst the chaotic guerrilla warfare of Civil War Missouri, a small force of Union militia troops is tasked with carrying out General Order No. 11, the expulsion of all civilians from four counties on the Kansas-Missouri border. But each soldier has his own motivations, not all of them noble. When they encounter some unusual opposition, their commitment to their mission, their unit, and even their sanity will be tested.

This is an early playtest version of this scenario, and also Ethan's first time running Trail of Cthulhu.

Here's the cross-stitch handout, on my Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qmwa8f2y5fldes9/Sampler%20PDF.pdf?dl=0 It looked a little better printed out than it looks here.

Thanks, Thomas! I'll see if I can get a dropbox link up for it this afternoon.

Can we get a picture of the crazy cross-stitched bible passage? Because that sounds like a phenomenal handout, and I want to stare at it in slack-jawed awe.

Thomas O'Hara

Thanks, Chris! I love the historical aspect of Cthulhu gaming. I had a great time running it, and allthe players contributed a ton.

Ethan Cordray

That was an awesome scenario. History lessons in a Cthulhu game, different takes on well used material, Aaron being Aaron, and the end scene, that right their sounds like it could go somewhere too. Loved the portrayals of the NPCs and the Players.

Al Dente Rigamortis

I just want to say, YAY ROSS! Thanks for being awesome!

Moist Randy

Oops, forgot to mention that I hope to listen to it this weekend, probably Sunday.

Joe Collins

No pressure, Ethan! It is a game, with gamers, so I expect it to go off the history rails fairly fast. But if you are serious on knowing more, I highly encourage you to read Bruce Nichols' four volume set, "Guerrilla Warfare in Civil War Missouri." It is an excellent researched book on the guerrilla war and is very neutral towards both sides of the war and he is not reluctant to point at the atrocities committed by both sides. I think his handling of explaining way General Order Number 11 is the best I have read on maintaining a neutral look at reasons why the order was given, what probably would have happen had it not went into effect (hint, the residents would had suffered a far worst fate than what happen), and why it was so ghastly to the Southern mindset.

Joe Collins

This is another classic for all us Aaron fans, for sure.

My hosting service, Bluehost, shit themselves apparently when they upgraded the server that all the RPPR sites are on. No ETA for when they will fix it.

Ross Payton

Looking forward to this one. What's up with the site, Ross?

Richard C Beaulieu

Player conflict with Aaron!

Wyrdling

Whew, no pressure, Joe! Let me know all the stuff I get wrong...okay, maybe not all the stuff. But anything important that you think would improve the scenario. :)

Ethan Cordray

I am looking forward to listening to this one. I am huge Civil War reader, specifically on the war in Missouri and the surrounding states. I think my 500 book collection on the Civil War in the Trans-Mississippi theater only (!) should back up my claim to that.
