RPPR After Hours Episode 2: All Hail Left Shark

In this episode, we review Darktek, a supplement for Dark Conspiracy filled with odd gear choices, and Warrens of the Ratmen, a 3E supplement about ratmen and their warrens. We also talk about the Superbowl and 50 Shades of Grey.

So, because I was bored at work, I calculated Nanny-bots value. At $20/hour, 5 hours/week, you'd have to hire a nanny for 250 years before you'd spend the same as one Nanny-bot.

Patrick

So the Slytherin sound like knock-off Skaven from Warhammer Fantasy.

KamenOtaku

As Fridrik Bjarnason commented, Warrens of the Ratmen is very similar to the Warhammer Skaven Armies books (any edition).

The Fifty Shades of Grey press tour truly is the gift that keeps on giving: http://variety.com/2015/film/news/fifty-shades-of-grey-sequel-author-e-l-james-demands-control-over-script-fifty-shades-darker-1201436512/

That's awesome! I'm glad he has a sense of humor about it.

As promised, I asked my buddy Les about DarkTek and what it all means. . . when I mentioned the book he immediately started chuckling. He was having a hoot listening about the the verbed-UP gear and zany pricing. He couldn't remember much specifically about the book (he oversaw the entire line), but he did immediately mention the. . . unique cover art, with its dangling grenade balls and his favorite, the "Scrotum Gun."

Christopher Reed

I remember the robots in Dark Conspiracy - we use to joke that if you're breaking into a place and they have a security bot, you make far more money stealing the robot than anything they might have in the building.

Malcolm Edwards

I am totally going to make the Verber something that a base raiding group needs to stop before it is too late

Thomas Piekarski

It's cool. Phenomenal episode.

Ethan Cordray

I was in such a rush to get this out I forgot to put music in. Sorry!

Ross Payton

Well, this is a monthly podcast but it's hard to schedule recording times for it and keep up with our regular schedule - we usually record between 1 and 3 games a week, then there's the main podcast, interviews, things like Unspeakable and now 2 online games a month. I will try to record closer to the end of the month in the future.

Ross Payton

Aw man, where's the ball-slappin' intro music?

Ethan Cordray

The Base Raiders dollar store is going in my next Base Raiders game. Brilliant idea.

Christopher Reed

Is there any chance you could have these things posted faster? Like you're mentioning current event things (which is great and hilarious), but it's a month old at this point.

Justin Whitaker

PLEASE DO :D

Ross Payton

holy shit that's a great idea.

Ross Payton

I was driven to pick up a PS4 and Destiny from Caleb's nega-review. there comes a point in any trainwreck that you need to experience it. the whole Fifty Shades thing is more like a plane hijacking, where the rubbernecking instinct bores through the other side and becomes something it's impossible to look at. when you're comparing your own work to Hitler, you know something's wrong.

sevrl bats

Half the shit Ross listed from the DarkTek book could be dollar store level super-tech that newbie Base Raiders would buy.

Beej

Oh how far the hobby has come.

Gary R

Yeah that is totally a waffle iron

Thomas Piekarski

First, the CompuNav is totally a waffle-iron. Second, I am running a campaign with the author of the original Dark Conspiracy game as a player (but NOT the author of the DarkTek supplement), so I might ask him about the goofiness of this supplement. Just for fun, I paged through my Dark Conspiracy book, and I didn't see any bizarre naming with -er endings. There is a good chance there is a hilarious story behind this supplement, and I will try to uncover the juicy details.
