Devlog: January Report (2022)


Hey guys, it's time for a monthly game development report!

A quick refresher: I'm currently working on Kegar's update (part 4).


The work goes smoothly - I've already finished writing this new part of the story around Thursday, and now it's all about coding it in (at the moment I'm writing this devlog I'm already halfway through with it). Because this time the story takes place in a new section of the town, I also had to do some serious digging through my old photos to find something that I could use as a coffee shop and a shopping center background. Thankfully, this time I had everything on hand, so I didn't have to make a trip just to get these. Speaking of graphics, I also have mostly finished Arthur's updated expression sheet, although I will still need some time to properly implement them (resize, swap the files) and then to refine them (there’s always room for improvement). Whether these will get included in the upcoming update or not only time will tell.


As for the content itself, I REALLY like this new segment of Kegar's story. At first I was unsure where I should take it (my worries were mostly related to Arthur's involvement), and in the end, I actually had to take a step back, and return to the storyboard to imagine how some things could work in a bigger perspective. Having a lot of conflicting ideas, I decided to do something crazy, and in a span of only a few hours I planned a fake route for Arthur, just to get a better idea how I could work with him if he had a more prominent role in the game. And this of course, opened my eyes for some interesting possibilities for the main story. Now, I know that all of this sounds very vague and mysterious, but I just wanted to share this ‘thinking-process’ tip and tell you how taking such a completely different approach was so helpful to me. (Also, I obviously don’t want to spoil anything yet :))


The new build for patrons (v.0.18) will be available 30-31th January and this update will be a continuation for Kegar's story (part4). As for the public version, this one will get an update to v.0.17.1 sometime at the beginning of February (it will feature Kegar’s part3, updated sprites and all the previously missing CGs).


Because I'm running out of free space on my OneDrive, I will soon have to delete some of the older builds that are still available for download, so please make sure to get them if you like collecting them.
