This project was inspired by this piece (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/ozJnw) created by Aras Jamal who was kind enough to provide me with permission & feedback in this venture.
I had long been tinkering with the idea of a desert themed city & when I saw the piece in question I decided it was exactly what I was looking for and checked to make sure I could model it. Naturally the birds eye view reveals some of the spots left empty to ensure the buildings along the walls could be seen, laying out a city that looked natural, a little messy but functional was an intriguing challenge.
I feel this was excellent practice, I have been wanting to expand my range of experience and modelling a city like this & laying it out was an excellent learning experience. Especially with some of the guides I used to find tips & tricks, such as using emission to create the dusty effect & musgrave to give the shadowy windows & doorways a sense of depth. I also used some purchased maps for efficiency.
