Here’s my version of this “Murnau” arc of cinema history in my mind after this conversation of the cinema branch in expressionism. Murnau -> Disney’s “Fantasia” -> The Archers -> “The Night of the Hunter” -> Later Bergman, particularly “Hour of the Wolf” -> Argento’s “Suspiria” -> “Angel’s Egg” -> I’m not quite sure what goes afterwards. I had thoughts on Wong Kar wai. But with contemporaries. I agree with Eggers but I also think of Don Hertzfeldt.
