Episode 57 - >:( but also :)

On today's episode we speak about the recent changes in the AI bubble and then have a very raw discussion about our feelings towards general ignorance.

Enjoy.

Right now, I’m listening to Acid Is Bad for Business in reverse order because I came pretty late to the party. Love your rants. I remember having almost the exact same rants in group conversations with my friends—only to get nothing but weird looks, like I’m completely mad, and be told I’m thinking too black-and-white.

You can pay subscription for music streaming and use scripts to download music as a backup. It's just that not many people care to do it. I know that the things you said about climate change were to give an example, but I don't think that "removing the machine" is a realistic solution, since among others, IPCC, IEA and US Academy of Science state that reaching net zero by 2050 requires Carbon Dioxide Removal. You can say for example that you don't share that goal, but most of the climate discussion is about that, so I don't think that people must be ideologically driven, if they argue something like that. On the subject of exploitation of China, this is something that I know more about, since I've studied Economics and have continued to read books and articles for many years now. I disagree that people of China are being exploited by foreign companies. There will be individual cases of that, but it doesn't occur in general. Wages offered by foreign companies are much higher than the average in the region. Usual story is that villager works hard for couple of years and then, because of the extra money, is able to travel to city for even higher wages and better working conditions. It's also the case that because of the foreign companies, productivity of workers grows much faster in China (thanks to machines, training and better methods of production) and what follows is the increase in wages and better working conditions. China is much less poor than 40 years ago, because of the fact that they have opened to foreign capital. This is not a controversial opinion amongst Economists, this is the usual view. Maybe you can use exploitation in a different sense. Exploitation could be air pollution, but I think you need to stretch the meaning of the word, so that you erase it's intuitive meaning within this context. I think that because of the harm of air pollution, companies should go to courts and pay compensation, if it's proven that local people suffer (or will suffer) significant health detriments because of them, but companies aren't destructive per se and they have mostly positive effect on the wellbeing of Chinese citizens. I hope my message doesn't come across as pedantic. I know that criticism about the details can be frustrating, especially when it comes to response to non-scripted form. I've seen how many angry comments you receive on YouTube and I want to stay away from seeming like that kind of person, but I'm not sure how to convey it through text.
