Nothing is punk anymore...

In this video, we take a look at the entirety of contemporary artistic perceptions and how they are concerningly failing the human condition. But there is still plenty we can do to fix it...

Nothing is punk anymore...

I watched "ART IS NOT FOR SALE", "The Illusion of Progress" and this video. I do agree that art should not be censored. I'm radically against censorship, but moderation is not censorship. Internet platforms are creations with rules that you can ignore by simply not using them. By forcing companies to change given rules is to neglect the reasons why people chose them in the first place. Decision to leave the platform is only made harder by the others, those who want to stay there, otherwise it costs nothing. By comparison, when state censors something, the only way to avoid it is by risking going to jail, paying fines or moving out of it's borders if it's even possible. I want more places to allow artists to freely express themselves, but most people disagree, which is apparent by their actions. Businessmen should not be blamed for it. They are not free to choose whether to create highly moderated spaces or not. That's because of the dependency on customers with their demands and advertisers, who in turn rely on what people consider to be disgusting and worth banning. In response to "The Illusion of Progress": the process of making previous art is automated and not cared for as much as it was in the past - that's right. Today's art focuses more on the present - don't know for sure, but highly probable. Where I disagree is the stance that the technology limits artistic expression. Sure, we loose things along the way, as you showed, but there is the other side of the coin. Technology and innovative methods of production made things cheaper and thus allowing common people to fully engage with art. Then there are tools. It took cavemen much longer to create things that were considered simple later. Cavemen procedures became redundant and lost. What we gained instead were detailed paintings and frescos on complicated architecture. Republic of Letters helped with literature. Sound was crucial for what cinema could do. In games: C++, a move to 3d, game engines, bigger memory and so on. Jonathan Blow couldn't have expressed things like he had in "The Witness" if not for the advance in technology. Alexander Bruce created unique atmosphere in "Antichamber" thanks to how games progressed and using already existing game engine, which proved to be less nerve wracking activity for him, while still requiring 7 years of work. Now we have VR, which could in the future utilize more nuanced forms of input and context behind it. I don't claim that the opposite of what you're saying is truth, because I'm not certain. It's just not self evident and I have different intuitions about it. Lastly there is a case of AI and I think we can't say much about it right now, because we are unable to see into the future, and even approximately understand which new forms of art will be made possible by it. One could say that in extremity art would be not wanted, but even today some people have a need for engaging with self imposed constrains in virtual worlds (like building in Minecraft on 2b2t server) and it will likely become stronger, when we will care more about things happening in virtual spaces. By the time AI could potentially replace majority of art categories, it may be the case that we already have so efficient information transfer technology, that finding appreciation of the art of art making would be something that is easily discovered and is widely understood and valued. There is too much uncertainty to tell.

This video is what made brought me to this Patreon as an Atrium member. So well articulated. I worked as an art/film/music/philosophy teacher at a non profit private school last year and I still keep in touch with my students and volunteer to do lessons here and there. I sent this video to them to watch and discuss in class as this is necessary viewing for all young creatives!
