Adults are severely letting down kids when it comes to sexual content on the internet, and then proper porn for slightly older kids. I feel like parents and teachers act like this is ‘all new’, that they don’t even understand it themselves. But these poor young people have been plonked in this reality and look to the adults for guidance who just turn back with faces of fear and say ‘we don’t know what to do but just know it’s bad’ or ‘just remember, it’s not real life’. It’s an embarrassment and a tragedy. I hear horror stories from my cousins’ school (in Sydney) that stem from these problems.

Wow, through an imposed sexualised lens, that Lion King scene really does seem overt. Since adulthood, it's not hard to not see that is the case (all nestled in the bushes with Lana's paws raised), but it's always been quite romantic, not sexual, for me. That little section of dialogue reminded me of your comments on Avril Lavigne and Twilight being re-contextualised because of the passing of time, and importantly, the internet. ------------------------------------------------------------ I am so glad you made those comments about Letterboxd. I have been ranting about exactly what you said, even on the comments here, and because I don't know anyone who uses Letterboxd, or even knows what it is, that I've been ranting to myself about it (like a good old crazy person). For some utterly ridiculous reason, I am still logging films. The moment I click on a film and even just skim the 'top review', I feel my gut tighten with irritation. The function of logging a diary of films and adding to a 'watchlist' for future reference (because I'm old and can't remember things) which I find useful... and it doesn't drive my desire to watch films which in the last couple of years it seemed to be overtaken by at times! --------------------------------------------------------------- Talking of the romance and sentiment of John Ford cinema.... How Green Was My Valley and The Quiet Man Ugh my goodness. Both are just heaven to watch! I would not have watched both quite as quickly without discovering what a treasure The Searchers is. ------------------------------------------------------------ Very rousing and fun podcast this week! :-)
