The 15 Greatest Documentaries

A new list conducted by myself. I hope you all enjoy and would like to hear your considerations for this often forgotten genre in the realm of cinema.
Thank you.

The 15 Greatest Documentaries

Some that people might not always think of Alan Whicker - I Wear A Uniform and Pack a Gun, But I'm Still a Woman (Not perfect, or if would be considered for this kind of list, but it is indicative of what TV Docs used to be like- very challenging in places for a show that would be shown on TV) 79 Primaveras - Santiago Alverez - kind of a documentary - might be seen more as an experimental film Chris Marker - le joli mai Hearts and Minds - Anti war doc from the 70s Lots of good Polish doc makers - but Marek Pewoski is one of my favs.

Love these lists.

Can’t imagine how difficult it was to make this list . Surprised though not to see Robert Flaherty or a few others like Battle of Algiers but I guess one can argue that they weren’t pure.

Here are the ones I could recognize in order of when they show up in the video: Crumb (1994) Fahrenheit 9/11 (2001) Murderball (2005) Grey Gardens (1975) Paris is Burning (1990) Faces Places (2017) State Funeral (2019) Koyaanisqatsi (1982)

Does anyone know the names of the Documentaries at the beginning of the video?

This is a nice list. Thank you for including some of my favs. When I was 15 yrs old (1998), my high school film teacher showed us Hoop Dreams, I don’t know how many times I’ve been that touched by a film or art of any kind. ✌🏼

Mannn, you articulate these movies so well. As a 'normie' cinema fan I would pass many of these films by with a blink of an eye. But the context and perspective you provide for each makes me feel like I'd be on the edge of my seat for each one. Can't wait to watch some of these and share them with the people I love. My mom is a huge crime mystery TV/novel fan so 'Thin Blue Line' would be right up her alley while me and my best friend have dreams of exploring the wilderness so 'Grizzly Man' will be a fun watch. I feel like I will rediscover a profound sense of wonder in life when I go through the inevitable existential crisis that 'As I Was Moving Ahead Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses Of Beauty' will give me.

Great list! I was hoping a Maysle’s doc would make the list. Had the good fortune to get notes on my doc from Albert Maysles 20 years ago - great guy.

Amazing! I was wondering when you said how you were "going through the documentaries" in the last Acid episode that we would see some form of a documentary video, and this is greater than I could’ve imagined! I’m so excited to watch through the whole thing! So far documentaries that I have seen that are my favorites include: 'Koyaanisqatsi' 'Man With a Movie Camera' 'The Beaches of Agnes' 'Tounges Untied' & 'The Act of Killing'
