These first two are so unbelievably resonant to me. I can't tell if I should binge or savor this. Feels very nourishing.
I feel like people think because a song is focusgrouped to optimize it's catchiness it automatically makes it good.

Regarding the sportsperson and social media topic. It's one of the reasons, alongside many others, that I think skateboarding is such a wonderful thing. It's a subculture that, for better and worse, still hold onto very counter culture ideals. It's a group of people who just want to go outside, strive to be better and develop their own style and niche in an incredibly creative discipline.
You wont get much deep introspection out of many skaters, but they are broadly a wonderful group that demonstrate the benefits of positively "gatekeeping" their passion.

This “masters only” to strive for greatness mindset got me pretty excited. I hate all my photography work lately, so I have switched from looking at popular IG photographers for inspiration to only looking at references from photography books published by the greats. It’s really making me rethink everything I know about photography, but it’s overwhelming. This mentality that we can all reach these heights is inspiring. Also, considering just removing anything mediocre from my life now in terms of only taking in the best of the best.

Do you think you will make this podcast available on any open platforms? I have other connections who may not be able to support via Patreon, but would really benefit from being part of your conversation.

I really enjoy your videos and this talk, but I want to say that it is unbelievably refreshing to hear people that have standards and to be unapologetic about it.

I’d probably try to watch The Lord of the Rings in its entirety. If that’s cheating then I’d maybe pick James Cameron’s Avatar. I think I’d be in the mood for pure escapism with a happy ending.

"Parasocial relationship" - thank you for coining this term! As a fellow not-on-social-media person (also a never-been-on-social-media person), I was very touched by your discussion of friendship, and as a (classical) music critic it's refreshing to hear your delectable openness. Thank you for being anti-hyperbole.
I'm looking forward to the enrichment of this community, and also finally to seeing your own films.
Wishing Luiza a speedy recovery from her cold.

Great episode. For the closing question, I would go with Columbus by Kogonada. I find it a peaceful film to end life with. A very delicate emotional journey of a film.
And on the topic of sacrificing to do great things. I want to share with everyone an essay I read that is quite inspiring and eye opening by Paul Graham (http://www.paulgraham.com/greatwork.html) Give it a read; you’ll get at least one valuable thing out of it.
Looking forward to next week!

City Lights or Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory would be my choice if I was dying tomorrow...
