Patreoncast #5 - On Scriptwriting and Characters

Comments

I loved this podcast. It was refreshing to listen to your guy's take on screenwriting and characters as artists. I feel like most screenwriting podcasts or Youtube videos are inundated with an over-explaining three-act structure, hero's journey, how to sell your screenplay, etc. For me, I feel one of the biggest things that have improved my screenwriting has been taking acting classes. Like Aaron Sorkin say's, screenplays are meant to be performed not read. I like to think that most screenwriters are focused on the Macro of the story. Like what's the premise, theme and how does each scene build or add to the overall story. Whereas the actor is more concerned with the Micro of the story. Like what are the intentions and the emotion of this scene and how do they make that come to life. Also, acting has taught me to understand that the actions of the characters and what is said are really only 10% of what is actually happening in the scene. The other 90% is the subtext and emotion of the characters. Anyways, if you guys start a writing group. or challenge here in the Patreon I would love to participate!
