I don’t have a Letterboxd account anymore. Nowadays, I keep track of the films I watch on a small notebook :) - Luiza

From the perspective of someone who's just got distribution for our indie feature - it is nigh impossible to make a film that's creatively worthwhile and not bury yourself in debt. I just went through just about all of Stephen Follows' research (a-mazing) and can't believe how complex a task it much be to make a profitable film. Also keep in mind the different commercial environments around the world - US films a mostly privately funded whereas European films are publicly funded, this to me makes all the difference. Where there's less pressure to make a profit, there's more room for experimentation and risk taking. Right now I'm developing a script to be attractive to funding bodies but also like.. good.. and worthwhile.. and creatively nourishing to my soul - it's very tricky - feels like planning a heist!

I think his films in the 2010’s from Incendies to Blade Runner 2049 will be looked back on like Hitchcock’s work from Rear Window to The Birds. I’m not saying they are better but will just be talked about in the same way Hitchcock’s work is.

About "World Cinema" becoming more mainstream, I would say that Parasite's Best Picture win is a good sign, but we need to give it time, it's a swinging pendulum, you know? "Foreign" (ugh, that term!) used to be everywhere, like you said, and then it wasn't, and it will be again. Just not right away.
