2025-01-07 08:51:29 +0000 UTCI actually appreciate Nate stopping to clarify the "Old Mole" thing, because I was absolutely viewing it as a confusing Britishism

2025-01-07 01:04:23 +0000 UTCI'm from the town where the raid was launched, have some great stories from my great aunt (who was in her mid twenties at the time) written down somewhere about how the whole town knew something was about to happen but it was all obviously very secretive. We were also taught about it at school (briefly) and also have a rememberence service every year at the memorial we have for the allies who were killed. Absolutely mental story, and this episode has shed light on some the crazier aspects that the blokes with the medals never talk about - definitely more research to be done here for me!

2025-01-05 06:31:51 +0000 UTCthis could make an insanely good movie. i don't have a joke here. the tow ship bluffing its way through the closing distance and holding steady under two bursts of fire, then accelerating to ramming speed as every german gun within a mile opens up simultaneously and all the gun boats cut tether to take off at full throttle ... i can hear the music in my head. you've got the doomed commandos nearly killed to a man but triumphant in key objectives, the false anticlimax of the failed detonation, and as the camera pulls back across the still morning carnage, ka-fucking-boom. roll credits. i'd see that twice. great episode, thanks.
