Once upon a time in Japan, shitty landlords, high taxes, and religious persecution united a diverse band of Christians, Samurai, Ronin, and farmers under the leadership of a teenager, believed to be an Apostle, in order to rise up against the Lords of Shimabara and the Shogun himself.

OK I was in fact eating Ramen when you dropped the Daimyo Soup, and am officially high enough to be concerned for a second. But then I remembered I'm eating Mi Go Rang which is certified Halal so I'm good there.

2025-03-14 04:30:00 +0000 UTCI did the "Obama was Japanese" conspiracy well over a decade now. I can't remember all my evidence, but it was something like: Obama was a Japanese surname, Obama oversaw a "pivot to the Asia", and he was the first US president to visit Hiroshima. For some reason, Republicans dismissed my arguments and insisted he was born in Kenya.

2025-01-22 22:56:04 +0000 UTCslight correction:the warlord who initiated catholic ban and invaded Korea was named Toyotomi Hideyoshi, not Tokugawa Hideyoshi. And he was technically not the Shogun (the commander) but the “Kanpaku (the informed)” because his peasant origin forbid him from claiming the title of Shogun, a title which the noble-born Tokugawa Ieyasu happily claimed after defeating the Toyotomi loyalist.

2025-01-08 21:47:27 +0000 UTCAs someone with weirdly intimate knowledge of the Shimabara peninsula: Obama onsen is actually really nice and actually the less famous of the several Obamas in Japan (Barack did not visit this one), Shimabara is actually now known for a local stew that includes mochi in it because of the starvation from this very time (apparently nobody in their right mind would put mochi in their stew unless they were starving), there's a village on the local volcano called Unzen where steam vents erupt from the ground which they call "Unzen hell" where at the end of all of this they executed all the Christians (and there's plenty of memorials to them there now), and the site of the old castle remains completely barren after the shōgun got well and truly pissed after all this was over. Oh and the volcano viewing spot also has several signs pointing to important sites linked to the rebellion saying something to the extent of "and that's where the morons fucked up on this day, that's where they got got on this day, and that's where the thing that led to the shōgun deciding, 'okay, no more foreigners at all' happened"

2025-01-06 18:37:51 +0000 UTCOn one side the Japanese warlords were trying to outdo each other in Warcrimes Olympics. On the other side, the nobles of Korea were trying to do corpse-based engineering by shoving conscripts up against well armed and battle hardened Japanese troops.
