I know I’m a bit late to the discussion here, but I thought it important to share this rare historical recording of General-in-Chief Winfield Scott explaining the Union’s military strategy towards wartime Confederate smugglers: https://youtu.be/X53ZSxkQ3Ho

This story was just a delightful amount of stupidity.

Might be of interest to you, during my History undergraduate we read the book “Wilmington’s Lie” which gives a pretty in-depth look at the white supremacist coup. Probably one of my favorite secondary sources I’ve read and it’s more contemporary history.

My sleep deprived brain read that as torta agehao and.... 🥵 That said, that sandwich sounds amazing.

Too dark 😬 It’s wild, I grew up and went to school in the south (ok maybe not that wild…) and I went through college and never heard of 1898. Now I live by the 1898 memorial here in Wilmington and yikes… More people need to be aware of it. Looking forward to yall tackling the subject! For anyone that comes through the city, there’s a fantastic tour that operates out of the memorial park that is incredibly well done.

After the Willie D it seems like anything involving the name Porter and ships is gonna go badly.

You need to cover the battle of Franklin, 5 confederate generals yeeted because 1 confederate general who had no use of one of his arms and leg told them to march at the union over 2 miles away with no cover infront of them. The union army also just silently walks past the confederate lines at Springhill the day before the battle. Just memes all around!

Yeah, I was thinking ‘Joe tries to cook a retreat from Moscow meal’

When you mentioned the racist Irish Americans saying that the Irish were slaves to made me spit out my drink laughing 🤣🤣 I’m fifth generation Irish American and I’ve heard my mom make the comment about how Irish people were slaves in an argument about slavery in America. Cringe shit 🤣🤣

Good things are cooking in the transcultural swamp that is Houston. Vietnamese and Cajun fusion made by Hispanic line cooks.

The Texas tramp stamp would be great for assplay, because everything is bigger in Texas

Funny, I actually have a tattoo of poppies because opiates and opiods killed a ton of my buddies in the 2010s. Stupid time, lucky to be alive.

The torta ahogada is an excellent example of a culinary thing that happened because French cooks were trying to make baguettes with local ingredients creating a crusty bread that you throw some roast pork on and dunk the whole thing in hot sauce

As the second bombardment rages over Fort Fisher, imagine you hear on a loud speaker. Bombs over Baghdad by OutKast pierces the Confederate ears from the Union ship’s JBL loud speakers as shells tear through the slave owning traitors, dashing them to pieces. Truly a symphony of epic proportions.

William Shackelford

Fort Fisher was, and maybe still is, a staple of North Carolina middle school history classes.

Matt

They did a food review episode awhile ago. But it would be nice to have a cooking with Joe and Tom And friends.

William Shackelford

Important to note through ALL of this - Fort Fisher is comprised of sand and earth berms throughout which are well known for being *highly* susceptible to explosion damage...
