My favorite part of the French Match was when Buckingham and Charles left Spain, having promised they'd accept Spain's stipulations so Charles could marry the princess, and graciously accepted all the best artworks as an engagement gift. Then when they got home, they claimed they never agreed to the marriage - but they did Not return the artwork. Extremely strong rec to Lucy Hughes-Hallet's book about Buckingham, 'the scapegoat'.
