So, Sheva (yay issues!)
Added 2020-09-03 21:34:17 +0000 UTCHey guys, I'm here to talk a bit about Sheva.
Basically, I assumed it would be just a regular model. You know, make flexes, build, fitting and be done. Things went better when I did a quick analysis and I found that her pants were fully modeled, which meant more bodygroups for her gear!
But, when you are experienced with model building, if everything is going according to the original plan, and everything is setting in place, then something will go wrong. That's the Model Builder Law.
This wasn't the exception.
I was actually remember the times of Resident Evil 5. How it was a pretty fun Co-Op Resident Evil game (Fun, not good) and then things went like this "Yeah, it was a fun game. I still remember the silly glitches and the dumb movement... yeah, it was a fun game that was released back in... oh shit..."
I loaded the model again and triple checked the model to see something was wrong. And then I found it.
Here's the thing. In many times you guys have seen me writing about lazy modelling and how modern AAA paid modellers are so damn lazy when it comes to models. Sheva suffers of the same thing, however, it's not the same situation.
Back in that time, it was just not affordable at all to make a full model of a character. Game Studios would try to spend the less money possible on things in order to make developing more affordable. A common method to do this was to partially model a character.
This partial build came in many forms, some had two kind of models (1 high quality for videos and 1 for the game), some other used lower quality textures, and in some cases, some just painted the clothing on the character. That is partially the case for this model.
While the pants are fully modeled, the shirt isn't. Only the front half of the shirt (her chest) is fully modeled, while the half back of the shirt is painted. This is very, very problematic because I can't make an accurate selection of her shirt. The front will not suffer, but the back is another story.
This has made the model to come to a halt until I figure out what to do with it. I have these two options:
- What I hope: Find another model or some sort of meshmod people made with Sheva's outfit and hope they come with a fully modeled shirt.
- What I may: Try my damn best to make a proper shirt selection that doesn't look weird at all (which I will fail but I will try my damn best)
Of course, it cannot be a Model Corner model if you don't find rocks along the road.
Anyway, that is where we are sitting right now. The model also suffered from baked shadows however I'm working my way to remove the shadows to the best of my abilities.
Anyway, that's all for now! Wash your hands!
