Some stuff with Hsien-Ko
Added 2020-01-06 23:27:41 +0000 UTCBecause of the history those particular titles have, I carefully decided to neither title this nor tag it as a "Let's Talk" post. However, there are a few things that I think that are worth mentioning!
Hey guys! I hope you are doing alright!
In the last few days I’ve been pretty busy with real life stuff, so development on Hsien-Ko has been pretty slow. I hope in the next days the speed gets fixed to a more regular rate.
Still, even though there’s a slow development, I would like to give you a quick update in a few issues I found with the model and see what I can do about.
- Update on the Sleeve issue: removal approved. No sleeve nor claw are going to be included.
So, even though I made the decision when I first announced Hsien-Ko’s development stage, I still didn’t want to take the decision before figuring out how would I mess with the holes on her… chinese shirt (can’t remember the name) because, the sleeves and the claws? Those are weapons, she does actually have arms. I did a really simple cut with the sleeves and, to my surprise, the cut was clean enough so she resembles her Vampire Savior’s Win Poster. Is it really Vampire Savior? Can’t remember if it was in Vampire Savior or Night Warriors, but anyway, since there’s now that option, the sleeves and the claw have been effectively removed from the plan.
- Issue: Really, really, REALLY short neck.
While it’s not really a deal breaking, it’s just another issue I rather not deal with. Juri had this issue as well, and I can’t remember which other model had that issue too. What worries me though, is that since her neck is pretty short, some weights might get lost, so her neck and head rig might be a little funky, so that’s another step to add to the building.
- Issue: her textures are really old quality.
This game is old. I mean, really fucking old. The textures didn’t age well, and it shows in a few deforms, for example, when you make her blink, there’s a nasty smudge-like dirt spot on her eyelids. Also, her hair shadows are baked into the face. While this is not an issue by itself since most models have baked shadows, it is an issue flex wise, because when you use, for example, Eyebrow Raise, you see the shadow moving around, which is just really weird. So, the texture will need fixes, including upscaling and removing baked shadows. I’m not worried about the upscaling, the baked shadows though…
- Issue: her pants are incomplete.
Because of her outfit, Capcom went for the Smart Modelling and decided to not fully build her pants, so they are broken. Sadly, I don’t have a solution for this. I just thought about adding one of those Dragon Ball FighterZ pants to her, but I think the style it’s just so different it’s going to look out of place.
Anyway, I think that’s all for Hsien-Ko so far. It’s just a matter of time to normalize on the model building speed, but if you guys don’t mind, if I find something important, I will let you know!
Have a nice day!
