My fears about the previous result. Please read and help me.

Hey guys, so no much time has passed for you from between these votes, but since I’m writing this… well neither for me really.

Now, I need to confess something about this particular model vote. For all the models who were part of the model submission, the only one I did not wanted to win, was Menat.

This is not as shocking as you may think, or as dick as it may sound, because I believe there is an actual reason for me not wanting them, that reason being it challenges a lot of what me, as a Model Builder, and this Patreon page stands for.

When it comes to Model Building, I honestly don’t care how many versions a model gets. That is something the Model Builder wants to do, and he’s totally free to, since its his time he’s spending after all to get the model however he wants it to be like. However, building another model from scratch JUST to use one particular outfit, it’s something I’m against, because it’s a waste of resources.

Personally, I’m absolutely in favor of Model Extension, this means extending the usability of a model by adding new outfits to an existing one. It’s one of the main reasons why LordAardvark’s DOAFantasy are so good: the interoperability of the outfits gives a huge boost on outfits on all characters and basically, by building one outfit, you build it for all of them.

Why are you rambling about this? You may ask, well, because here are the facts:

- I’m in favor of giving outfits to existing models.

- I’m against building models from scratch for one exclusive outfit.

These two, together, are mutually exclusive to what this Patreon stands for: Building models. I regret that response I give to a friend, and also a patron, who actually knows this, because we had this particular conversation (this Menat), I regret that response I gave him, basically: I will cross that bridge once I’m there.

And the truth is, I’m fucking afraid of putting just one step into that fucking bridge.

This makes it so difficult for me, because I really want to give that model the outfit (And let me be clear already: She’s getting it) however, I’m against the idea that an outfit needs to use the full budget of a full model.

What is worse, is that any changes I do right now, will affect my whole Patron system, which I’m personally very afraid of. I personally believe the system I designed is very fair, very accessible and very inclusive. Everyone’s vote have the same weight. The lowest tier votes are worth the same than the highest tier.

Why is this so challenging for you? This is literally a non issue you may think, well… Here we go.

The reason why this is so hard, is because this Patreon page was exclusively conceived for model building. It was an inspiration after many commissioners said to me, personally, that they were really thankful because I actually made their models come to life for SFM, which made gave me enough confidence to start this whole thing.

And it’s basically the reason why I absolutely love this format: because it gives YOU, the patrons, the model you TRULY want in a fair battle between other models other patrons TRULY want. I’m not imposing my ideas and I’m not picking any part of the Spotlight. This system has made that we, together, spawned models for everyone to use, while it is you guys the ones who made them possible to begin with.

When this Patreon page is then changed with something like this, it makes it very difficult for me, because I just cannot make just an outfit that costs the full $80 model price. It’s just fucking unfair. This is borderline fucking lootboxes…

Again, just to be clear: she’s getting that outfit, but changes need to be done.

So… what is the solution?

I don’t know. This is very hard for me. I was thinking about creating a special slot for outfits, but this would segregate the pledges and it risks turning this model building page into a boutique.

I feel like I’m running in circles. I need some input on what to do with this, and since it’s you guys who are making this possible, I would love to hear from you about this, and what kind of solution would you guys be ok with.

For now, I’m fitting that outfit to our Menat, but I’m will only use $40 of the full $80 budget. The other $40 is going to next Community Model pot (not the current one).
