Lucifer Design Sketches

I drew the first designs for Lucifer years ago, when I knew I wanted him to have some kind of grunge that creeps up on him over the ages as he poisons himself with resentment. A stain you can't wash off, and grows larger with every soul he takes. He still has some of his crown light, but with every outburst it dims and only returns when he's regained control. I was gonna go with a donkey jawbone floating crown because it was a visual I really liked for whatever reason, but I ended up ditching them and just leaving the teeth, representative of his original sins.

The thorns in his hair are always scratching him and leaving little scars - death by a thousand cuts and all that metaphorical jazz. I went back and forth over time in terms of how big he would be in relation to all his demons, but I landed on "unsettlingly large", haha.

I was definitely influenced by the footsteps characteristic of the Forest Spirit character in the movie Princess Mononoke, where the flowers blossom and die under foot with each step. Lucifer brings his rage and resentment with him everywhere he goes, to the point there is literally bubbling, oily tar underfoot.
