Why I dislike the Unreal Engine 5 and most Games from it....

💥 UR5 Overload = Everything looks the same

So many indie and AAA games these days have this "glossy clean UR5 photorealism" that looks impressive at first glance, but:

every face has the same bone structure,

the same Metahuman lips, skin textures, eyes, hair,

even the clothing often looks identical: that "fake fabric" look,

lighting and colors = always the same Lumen presets 😵‍💫

And then there’s this NPC standing there with exactly the same model you've seen in 50 other games, just slightly recolored.

Like;

"Hi, I’m a UR5 model!"

I can't help but laugh — because it’s so true

💔 Where’s the individuality?

Older games – or moddable ones like Skyrim or Oblivion – still had:

characters with their own style, even if it was technically simpler,

unique shapes, proportions, even weird hairstyles 😅

a completely distinct visual feel, thanks to lighting and textures that didn’t try to be “realistic” but rather atmospheric

🧡 That’s why UR5 often feels “empty”

Because everything looks perfect – but in a artificially perfect way. No rough edges. No soul. Just Simply realistic polygons in pretty lighting.

And look – I understand indie devs who use UR5.

If it's their only tool to bring a vision to life, that's totally valid.

But big studios?

Those who have the budget, the tools, the artists...

They could be creative. They could make something truly their own.

But instead, they just use the same cookie-cutter assets as everyone else.

And that’s what frustrates me the most. 😤

I don’t know why so many people nowadays are only obsessed with graphics.
Where are the ones who dare to use their own style again? To be unique?

You can create your own look and still have great graphics — it’s absolutely possible.
But no one seems to have the courage anymore.
It’s honestly heartbreaking to see all of this — my heart bleeds every time I do.

It’s one of the reasons why I’ve really lost interest in modern games.
The gaming industry just isn’t as exciting as it used to be. 💔

"passionate rant" 🥺

Comments

I've noticed this quite often in many forums; it seems to be a thing. I don't know much about it, of course, but games these days are missing a lot of things that used to be there. It's generally become difficult to find good, engaging games that are worth it; most of them are just buggy and unfinished. 😫
