[Story] Good Night - 2020

Greetings my wonderful Patrons!

First of all, sorry for the lateness with a new post. I was having a quite tough week and had to work my way out from a couple of things. Before we go dive into the new story+illustration of our beloved anthro collie-shepherd couple. I would like to mention that I will still have one more pic for this June, please stay tuned for more!

Here we are on a new chapter, it's really been a while since the last story+illustration, been trying to find time progressing the couple life stories, finally I got one done!

Good Night

“Before I came into his life, my collie told me that he's been fighting with himself dealing with what I think is a working dog problem. Living as one of his kind as a herding dog, he was always trying his best to make life as exciting as it can be, often times it's too much for him, he said. Then he found me and completely changed his life, well... I mean his lifestyle to be specific, he became more of a house dog, full of love and care. I thought I was in the way, but he said he did it for me. Since then he has a happier life. I want to keep seeing my collie happy like this, I love it when we say good night to each other with a smile on our muzzles...” Said the shepherd.

The time shows just pass 9:00pm in the couple house, the couple is getting ready to close the day. They spent their usual day with their own activities, the collie was washing up the towels and few padding that they use to make themselves comfortable in front of the fireplace. The shepherd was working more on a lifting activity earlier this morning, he moved a couple of plant clay pots on the front porch before bringing in some of the firewood he cut for tonight’s warmth.

The collie came into the bedroom and start unfolding the blanket while the shepherd was coming in just behind him.

“Hey handsome, have you check the back door in case we haven’t lock it?” Said the collie softly.

“Yes dear, I have checked the back door, it is locked. But I’m not sure yours is locked yet.” The shepherd smiles while looking at his collie.

The collie was love-struck hearing what his shepherd just said.

“Oh you naughty!” Said the collie. “You have the key for mine, now let’s us get to sleep.” He said, trying to hide his blushing face.

“Ahaha, alright alright, let’s go to sleep dear.” The shepherd walks to the side of bed.

The shepherd seems to have learned those naughty jokes between his lines from the collie and he found it quite effective in getting his collie attention... sometimes.

The two then jumped on the bed they built themselves and snug themselves together, although the bed is quite large for for two, the shepherd often the one who snug nearer for his collie. The shepherd often caught the collie whimpering while he’s sleeping and he thinks it’s just his nature as a herding dog, bringing the wake up activities to his dreams. No one knows until the shepherd asked him...

“My dear, do you dream often?” Said the shepherd. “I often find you whining while you are sleeping.” He follows.

“Oh, you did notice too about it I guess. Well, it runs in my family blood... nothing to worry about.” The collie replies.

“Really? What is ‘it’ then?” Asked the shepherd curiously.

“I have a bad past memories too, just like when you living in the street before we found each other.” Said the collie. “You see, boy. When I was a still a pup, I, like other pedigree herding dog, need to pass some elementary tests by my parents. It’s the only way for us to be a good and success herding dogs.” He said.

The shepherd ears perks up when he heard the word ‘us’ from the collie. The he proceed spoon his collie to make comfort for both of them.

“Us? I did not know you have siblings.” Said the shepherd.

“Haha.. yeah, I do have siblings but it’s for another bedtime story.” The collie chuckles. “Anyway, basically I was the least favorite and did not do great on those herding dog tests you know, but my parents loves me and let me find my own interest. However, as I grow I always wanted to make my family proud by showing them what I can do... it’s just that sometimes I found myself in a spot where I’m just feeling stuck and incapable.” Said the collie. “Maybe it’s why I often get bad dreams like you noticed.” He follows.

“Ah... I see, well you’re the best collie I’ve ever known, dear.” The shepherd quickly said it and nuzzles his collie back ears.

“Hehe.. you’re just being sweet tonight, love.” The collie replies.

The two then cuddles each other waiting for the sleep fairies to come into their bedroom and sneeze out some sleepy magic dusts. The fireplace that they lit earlier still burning and the heat flows through into their bedroom, a comforting scene and time to close the day for the couple. The shepherd is still awake, he always the one who sleep last. Making sure that his collie fall asleep first. Not to mention that it’s the most favorite sight for the shepherd to look at the cute collie that saved his life.slowly falling asleep within his arms together, just a heart beat away. Then the shepherd talks in his thoughts.

“Seeing him from behind reminds me of those peaceful moments I had with my little brother, my collie is no different than those good times. Watching him falling asleep like this gives me reason to keep on giving value to life and my time in this world. I’m full of hope for our time with my collie together just like the time I had spent with my lost little brother.” The shepherd exhales in relief.

“... long day was it?” The collie mumbles.

“Eh.. you haven’t sleep yet?” Said the shepherd.

“I’m sleepy, but I don’t want to miss each of your breath I heard behind my ears.” The collie replied. “Do you have anything in mind, hmm?” He said.

“Oh.. nothing, it’s just that this moment we’re having every night makes me happy.” Said the shepherd.

“Me too, dear... Having you by my side is the best thing, really.” Said the collie.

The shepherd notices the collie smiling from behind and proceed to make small grin.

“You said you want to do something tomorrow, any new art project coming in?” Asked the shepherd.

“Oh I’m free from projects this week, but I do have a personal project that I want to do together with you.. we can talk about it when the sun rise next day.” Said the collie.

“Ah, I’m looking forward to do projects together again with you, I liked the way you helped me working with the plasma cutter prop somewhile ago.” Said the shepherd.

“Hehe... which part you liked from those plasma cutter prop project?” The collie quickly replies.

The shepherd was blushing and curl his arms around the collie more tightly.

“Everything about it dear.. everything.” The shepherd laughs.

The scene are getting more and more calm as the late night falls, the crickets start to sings and the couple can see some fireflies dancing outside the window. For them, every night is a perfect night, the time when they would rest and recharge themselves to do more activities. The two are enjoying the night as they start to get sleepy, but the shepherd saw that his collie still aware of the surroundings.

“I saw some of your paintings that you are working on when I moved the plants, are those work projects?” Ask the shepherd. “I like the one with sunset scenery and beautiful canyon landscape, you’re the best when it comes to landscape paintings.” He added.

“Oh thanks, dear. Yeah.. well, I don’t travel much nowadays to pain the landscape I like so I paints straight from my imagination instead of real scenery.” Said the collie. “Remember that we are still in lockdown because the university where you work had chemical accident, right?” He added.

“Accident in virology faculty, yes. Don’t worry about it, we have good teams that are working hard cleaning up the mess so everyone can be normal again. I do miss my students, I did give them a lot of homework for the holiday and the lockdown.” Said the shepherd.

The collie turns back and look at his shepherd, pinching his cheek with joy.

“Okay professor.” Said the collie. “Will you introduce me to your students later when the virus accident is over? I know some physics too.. hehe.” He added.

“What? Hmm.. well, I can make an extra minutes for a complementary session.” The shepherd replied. “But no horizontal physics, my class is a particle physics class, okay?” Said the shepherd while laughing.

“Yay.. awesome!” The collie laughs and turns back on the side again, snuggling on his and the shepherd’s arms.

The time shows 11:00pm and the two begin to yawn. Indicating that they now are indeed.. sleepy dogs.

“Time to sleep, dear?” Ask the shepherd.

“Hmm... let’s cuddle more, I want to hear some more stories from you.” Said the collie.

“I know that my collie loves hearing stories, he said he gets inspiration and ideas for his paintings from mostly from stories. I guess it’s just how an artist work they way out for their creation. My collie is just one of those wonderful figure that give colors for our world.” Said the shepherd, drowning within his own thoughts.

“Alright, remember when we were soaking wet trying to find our way back home?” Said the shepherd. “I remember it was one of the biggest storm we’ve ever seen.” He added.

“Oh, I remember that one, it was a fun trip indeed. Now I wonder how our wolfdog friend is doing these days... hmm..” Said the collie.

“Why don’t you go ask our landlord? He’s a good friend of our wolfdog fellow and I’m sure we’ll get to know how things are going on our friend.” The shepherd laughs. “Let’s try calling him tomorrow, I have something to ask too to him.” He added.

“Sure thing, but what do you need from him? It’s unusual you have ‘something’ to my boss.” Said the collie.

“Ah, it’s not a big deal. I just want to ask about a place that is important for me. See if it’s well cared.” Said the shepherd. “It was an important day today.” Then he added.

The collie ears perks up and he make a slight nod, suggesting that he know what it is about.

“Alright then, well.. I do hope things are doing great out there for our friends. We are lucky that we live quite far on the edge of the city.” Said the collie.

“Yeah..” The shepherd nuzzles the collie’s ears. “Go sleep now, sweetheart. We have works to do tomorrow.” He added.

“Hehe.. good night, handsome. Hold me tight tonight.” Said the collie with soft tune.

The shepherd then kisses the collie good night and they both falling fast to sleep. The time shows just about pass midnight. While the heat from the fireplace next door start to cool down, the cricket still sing with fireflies, making the good night less lonely for the loving couple.
