In the Shade (steps)

As I mentioned earlier, I had done this to try to test another way to do shading, inspired by Evan sharing her steps to the Eggman cover for the IDW Volume 4 collection. I have no idea if I did it “correctly” but in the end, though I like the result, I don’t think I’ll try this again (at least not anytime soon).

Anyway, here are the steps!

Now the flat colors

Now, the new technique which is basically a “monochrome” shading layer, again, no sure I did it right… this layer is set to “multiply”

Which was then laid over the flats

And then more flourishes added for the final, some highlights, grass, eye highlights, color blocked some lines, etc. This might be good for interiors but I’ll have to work at it more before I like it for more detailed stuff like prints or covers. I still dig it tho and I hope you do too :)
