Splatoon Idols (steps)

The messy as heck sketch. Usually I draw each character individually for big, multiple character things like this but I did NOT have the time. I just split it between Deep Cut in front, and the two sets of girls in the back.
Inking was done the same, so two layers
Then flat colors. At this point I was running out of time so it’s just one layer for the base color
Then all the shading, effects and color blocking. This room the longest time with everyone’s different gradient tentacles, fingertips, etc. also it was oddly hard to find good, clear references for things like that and their eyes. 3D model images were usually low quality or didn’t have the area I needed and all the 2D art is very stylized. Anyway…
The final! I went through a lot of different background designs before I just said forget it and did this. But after getting the prints, I like it! I even got a few in holographic. They look sooo fresh! 8D
This took like 3 days to do and I’m not kidding. Not being familiar with the characters or finding good refs made it that much harder, but it was fun doing something different. :) I really like the character designs in this game, maybe I’ll get it if I make enough at the con lol
