In regards to the SA scene, I am so grateful to have had this shown, in all its horrendousness in a Star Wars IP. As a woman, shows that have SA portrayed in them, glosses over the brutal nature and how often the woman did not do anything to "provoke" the situation. The lead up to the assault and the attempted assault itself reflected what happens to many many women on a daily basis and instead of it being implied or glossed over Andor decided to show it on face-value. They were realistic and upfront with how sickening and brutal it is. But more than that, it reflected the banality of evil - the lieutenant has obviously done this before and his driver didn't care about what was done to Bix and he was going to punish her for being the victim and fighting back. This is real. Police re-victimize women all the time - they blame them for being drunk or for what they are wearing, etc. Additionally, most shows would have had this scene only for the male protagonist to swoop in and be a hero, letting the woman be brutalized to show the power of a man. BUT - Andor did not do this....Bix saved herself. Cassian didn't even know what was happening. This scene was not to bolster the heroic nature of the male titular character, but to show Bix's strength and moreso, to reflect the true evil of authoritarianism and how those who work in power under these regimes often abuse their power for their own gain. In season 1 Syril did the same thing but hunting down Cassian - "the man with dark features" - in order to get ahead in his career and to look powerful. As a woman who has been a victim of sexual harassment, it was upsetting but also refreshing to see an honest portrayal of what happens every day in real life - all the stories of immigrants being assaulted at the border - or in history - all the Jewish woman who were assaulted by the SS. Andor is using the giant platform of Star Wars to tell an authentic story of authoritarianism, and with that comes true reflections of what happens in real life. But this is also an education, a warning, a wake up call to all those people who cheer on Luke blowing up the death star and hate the Empire yet have Vader or Stormtrooper car decals - the empire and the things that happen in the empire are not to be celebrated or adored, what happens in these regimes is ugly, evil and disgusting and it is time for those individuals who just want to laugh at the expense of the "stormtroopers can't shoot and are ineffective" to see that those working under the Empire are NOT ineffective. They are doing evil things everyday - oppressing people and communities in order to make a certain subset of people and the government they support more powerful. Sorry this was so long - but since these episodes have come out I have been so angry at those people claiming Andor went too far and Star Wars is not the IP to have such brutality in it - well no, honestly Star Wars -an Andor specifically - is the perfect place to have these scenes in it. We as a society can't hide our heads in the sand and pretend these things don't happen and continue loving the empire because the evil they do is just "implied."
