Doctor Who Season 8 Christmas Special - The Time of the Doctor

Ah, Capaldi, my favorite Doctor. What I liked about him was he was also a Dr. Who fan since childhood. He embodied the classic Who doctors, especially Pertwee, my classic favorite. Fun fact, Jon Pertwee was Sean Pertwee’s dad (Alfred from Gotham). I also second The Thick of It, the show that Capaldi was on before Dr Who. His character on that show is like if his version of the Doctor could say the “F” word. Capaldi is also an accomplished musician whose cousin is Lewis Capaldi.

Close of the tenure of my favourite Doctor, Matt Smith. From here on out, I dont think they quite hit the same consistent heights again, but theres the occasional gem. Finally, just as a suggestion…when you get a moment, go back and watch silence in the library again. You now have waaaaay more context. (Oh, and fun fact, one of the actresses in Silence in the library married Elon Musk (i think).)

The older I get the more I appreciate Capaldi he’s just the goat

Capaldi’s my favorite, and just remember his whole run had Steven Moffat as showrunner as well. There are always nitpicks, but I love so much of his run. I loved that David Tennant was a super fan of the OG show as a kid during the 4th and 5th Doctors era growing up. He brought his own take but it had hints of Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor, by always having that a sense of undercutting humor. Matt Smith was most influenced by the 2nd Doctor, Patrick Troughton, who had a wacky childlike professor side. Matt didn’t grow up a Who fan but boy was he a great Doctor. Capaldi, being born in the late 50s, he grew up with the 3rd Doctor as his hero, and Jon Pertwee was more serious, kind of callous at times, but very heroic. In classic Who, I love his three seasons with companion Jo Grant and the original Master, Roger Delgado. Yet Jon Pertwee the actor was originally a comedic actor but he treated The Doctor as more of an almost straight, James Bond role who worked with UNIT. Capaldi the kid was a SUPER FAN. As much as for Tennant, this is the role of a lifetime for him. He knows his Who, and his acting is top notch. You are in good hands.

Heaven Sent is not simply a great episode of Doctor Who but a great episode of television of a kind that is very rare.

I can't wait to see how they feel about 12. I was in Rekkais camp of "he might be too old" at first too. Imo, he far exceeded my expectations & is now my favorite out of them all. Classic included.

9 was fantastic, 10 was brilliant, 11 was geronimo and my favourite doctor for the longest time, until I rewatched Capaldi last year, now Capaldi is my favourite. Capaldi's run is peak Doctor Who, Moffat unloads the clip, it's wild

If you want, here are two short clips from Peter appearing on 'The Graham Norton' show before the show came out - There are zero spoilers, but by all means run these past someone you trust before you watch if you want :) - but maybe seeing him for a few minutes and his love for the show might help you warm to him before the first episode. Up to you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_C_WLxSuo0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tyA6sdLq88

Always great seeing people go through the new doctor cycle like the rest of us lol At the time in the UK Peter Capaldi was already known as he had appeared in a hit BBC series 'The thick of it' so a lot of people were ok with the choice - Plus Peter is a lifelong Dr Who fan so we kinda knew we'd be in safe hands with the new Dr.

It's been funny watching you fret over the new (older Doc). It has happened to we old timers a few times. Water under the bridge. Throw the black arm bands away. It's going to be fine.

You'll get used to him. He's good. Very good. Smith is high on my list of Doctors because he is closest to my favourite Doctor Patrick Troughton the 2nd.

Colin Bayley

Amazing content 12 is my favourite modern doctor personally I hope you enjoy the ride.
