2024-12-10 02:02:02 +0000 UTCSteve Cropper and Donald Duck Dunn were the guitarist and bassist in Booker T and the MGs. And they were the backing band for most of Stax Records 60s hits. There is an awesome book on 50s and 60s soul called Sweet Soul Music by Peter Guralnick from 1986. A really great history lesson that focuses on the rise of Little Richard, James Brown, Rufus Thomas, Solomon Burke, Motown, Stax and Atlantic Records. One of the best music biographies I’ve ever read.
